Is there another reason DET is always on Thanksgiving other then tradition?

I mean can't they just bump them and put a better team on?

It is indeed a grand ol' tradition. Detroit vs. Green Bay used to be a regular feature of the holiday- including the time the Lions crushed the otherwise invincible Packers and very nearly decapitated Bart Starr in the process. Bet that Brutal has some vivid memories, and recalled 100-yard-dash times, from that game!

NFL needs to get rid of this stupid tradition. Nobody cares about the Lions, they hardly got any fans outside Detroit

Thanksgiven is the NFL day to showcase their best teams, wth are the Dolphins doing here. NFL not get the notice the Dolphins are planning to be trash. NFL once again making Thanksgiven games into a joke

Three hours of the Lions is clearly better than that time spent with in-laws.

Sort of
If you look at it from a purely ratings/revenue POV, the League knows you are going to watch no matter what. Captive audience
(What else are you going to do all day, talk to your Aunt Jemima about her fantasy team   ?)

So they might prefer to save the boffo match-ups and showcase teams for non Turkey Days so as to maximize their revenues.

Plenty of better things to do to watch a boring Lions team. You're right though, most people won't care and would watch the Raiders vs Billls, I just like to see best teams on special holiday
