Topic:  15. Rookies get only 4yr contracts

Idea submitter: SirA

Current situation: Currently we have a 7 round draft two weeks before the NFL Draft with players in round 1 getting 5 year deals, rounds 2-4 getting 4 year deals and rounds 5-7 getting 3 year deals. For players who have a 5th year option IRL, you can resign them for a year at 100% of their IRL option or you can resign them after before the end of their 4th year for 2 years at the average salary of their IRL 5th year + their BDL salary for their 4th year. Details of the idea: 5 Rounds of Draft with all players on 4 year deals (just like the NFL)

Argument for : Standardizing the Contract years of Drafted players to 4 years removes a lot of the need for corner case rules.

Applicable on: Now

YES (0) -

YES BUT ONLY FOR Rounds 1-4 / keep rounds 5+ to 3 year deals (9) - Ted, Pheltz, MD4L, Whicker, PR, Rags, SirA, BDP, JLash

YES BUT ONLY FOR Rounds 1-5 / keep rounds 6+ to 3 year deals (1) - wwhicock

YES BUT ONLY FOR Rounds 2+ / keep 1st rounders to 5 year deals (2) - Ruskie, Counselor

NO (2) - bcb, Xmad

I fully oppose shortening the draft in favor of any PFA post draft activity.

Good thing we tabled that until later and are only talking about altering PFA and rookie contract length.

Also you can pull Topic 6 until later as there is no way it will pass and only effected 2020 anyway. We can revisit later. The new Topic 16 that Rags came up with should be after 15. Thx for all you do.

Still a no on changing contract length from me.  Way it was set up is better

1st rounder 5

2-4.4

5-7.3

New system 1-5 4

If you hit on all your first four picks you can't three up them all, you can't extend using a rookie deal so they gone.  No thanks

but you do realize that if you hit on picks 2-4, missed on pick 1 but nailed pick 1 the year before, you're going to have the same issue in the current format than what you complain about.

Really giving 4yr contracts to 1st rounders will not lead to increased importance of FA vs draft whatsoever.

Only valid argument I heard was Ruskie's (I think) in the sense that yes the current structure basically gives a bonus to the owners who use their 1st rounder well as the money allocated to those players is less than IRL

Thanks,

Mixing 2 topics was a mistake.

Let's vote on rookie contacts first, then the draft/PFA whatever
