Honestly I'm warming up to the idea of Vea.  He could be what Star Lotulelei was supposed to be.  Have liked him throughout the process wasnt sure if I felt he was the guy at 10.  But he can easily replace Jelly vs the run and still offer some pass rush up the gut.  Not to mention he'd help free it up for whoever plays 3T and the edge guys too.  The supposed next Haloti Ngata?  I'm down for that.

Although another thought I've had is simply to trade down considering how many players I like for us this year.  Could get better value and add a 2nd, which is gold in this draft.

I am with you. The more I watch, hear from him, the more I like. He's can get after the QB at his size and he's going to each space like you can't believe. I could see him effecting the defense from multiple ways as you alluded to.

Trading down would be a great move to pick up some additional picks in rounds 2-3 where the talent value is.

Trenton Thompson is being slept on. I don't know how he will test today, but every time you watch UGA he is make plays. Injuries messed with, he played through a lot of them. If he can stay healthy, someone is going to get a player in the mid rounds with him

Has Marcus Davenport moved up anybody's rankings after  showing very similar physical ability compared to Chubb.

Chubb, Bradley   North Carolina State   6043 269 34 9 7/8 4.66 1.63 4.71 1.64 4.65 24 36"

Davenport, Marcus   UT-San Antonio   6056 264 33 5/8 9 1/8 4.61 1.66 4.59 1.63 4.58 22 33.5"

Do you think he is still on our radar after it was rumored we where very interested in him at the senior bowl.

For me I'm staying far away from Davenport specially at 10 I'm not saying he will be a bust but I rather draft Harold Landry over him

Plenty of ? for him and I am not sold but noticed today at another site that there were rumors of us really liking him at the senior bowl and his combine numbers are great.

Maybe not at 10, but I'd certainly consider taking a risk after a trade down. I think we would be a pretty good place for him to go as you couldn't wish for a better role model and teacher than Mack - both from small schools and used physical prowess against lesser opposition. Mack would be able to show him exactly what he'd need to learn to improve his game.

I know it's highly unlikely but could you imagine getting Buffalo's 2 1sts somehow? That'd be a real sweet spot for talent. Imagine picking up 2 of Davenport, Guice, Michel, LVE, Bryan maybe Vea?

what about lorenzo carter tho wow

No surprise he dominated at the combine. He simply didn't play up to it at UGA. He's got a lot of potential, but needs to fill out his frame. He was often dominate when teams ran directly at him.

I just compared on the trade chart because I was wondering myself.  Our pick is 1300 points. Their 2 firsts combined are 1580. Our 3rd is 215 points.  So basically we'd need to get them the value of our 3rd round pick .  Who knows, maybe the notion of getting a QB like Baker Mayfield if he's still there would be that value.  Their first and second would equal 1170 so we could get like a 4th or something too.

Honestly, I don't think we'll be able to dangle our pick to a QB needy team.  There's too many teams ahead of us in my opinion.  Our better bet is waiting for someone like Derwin James or Quenton Nelson to drop.  I feel safe saying that before us, its almost guaranteed that: Barkley, Fitzpatrick, Chubb, and 3 QBs go (Darnold/Rosen/Allen).  So probably both of those guys go too.  Maybe another QB or Ridley.  Which leaves us pretty screwed when it comes to trading down because those are the top guys unless I'm being stupid.  Damn the 49ers.

We literally get top pick in best of the rest category.  And I don't know who is even worth trading up for with them.  Like, the next best few are CBs and LBs but there's a few equivalent talents in those groups.  Same can be said for OTs, right?  Seriously, damn the 49ers.  I don't see the winning situation here unless something wild happens on draft night.

About Vea:

I'm not sure where his true value lies.  @RaidersAreOne and @oakdb36 make good points in that taking a non pass rushing specialist DT that early is risky.  A run stuffer isn't worth it.  Obvs not saying Vea will just be a run stuffer.  But he's a big dude.  They can only handle so many snaps.  I'd be concerned about that investment because I'd wonder how much he'd come off the field on passing downs.  Which is relatively often considering the frequency with which modern defense need to go to the Nickel.  I guess I'd need to do some research on snap counts for guys like Damon Harrison and Dontari Poe. I do know their drafted teams let them walk though.  So who knows.  We don't see many Knighton's and Casey Hampton's and Pat Sims' and Pat Williams' anymore.  Don't get me wrong, Vea's a physical freak and not just a run stuffer... but I can't help but wonder where his real value is in the first.

The real internal debate I have with myself is how to handle not being able to trade down if we end up in that boat.
