Maybe 2012 actually. The only thing that gives me pause is that our defense down the stretch faltered starting with the Seattle game in December. Justin Smith tore his triceps and never really recovered. Aldon Smith went on a dry spell for sacks. In the playoffs the dam broke with the team giving up way too many points to the Packers, Falcons, and ultimately Ravens. Our offense with the change to Kaepernick was probably more so the reason the team got as far as it did. When Alex Smith got benched we had a QB that wasn't trigger shy going down the field, which helped a lot. Kaepernick and the damage he could do with his legs was an additional problem for defenses. 49ers also had a really hard schedule that year having to go to Green Bay, New Orleans, and New England. They won all of those games. They also beat down the surging Bears on MNF.

The thing about the 2019 team is that they never once got their *** kicked even in their losses. The closest was in the Super Bowl when the Chiefs already sealed the deal and got that BS touchdown at the end. The other three losses were all down to the wire. Their offense at their high point wasn't as nutty as the 2012 team though for me. Max potential Colin K was better than max potential Jimmy G. The squad this past year never ran out of steam on one side of the ball like the 2012 squad. If they played each other at their peak I'm probably taking 2012.

I remember the 12 49ers defense was awful from the second half the NE game till the end

Really was mediocre at best to end the season. Both Smith brothers got hurt and that killed the defense.

But that offense in the postseason was ridiculously explosive and efficient.

It's a good debate. 2012 probably had more high level talent but the 2019 squad was stacked in its own right and very deep.

Um............

The 2012 had a redeeming quality about them that made them more scary than the 2019 team. It was probably the veteran leadership, particularly on the defensive side. If you break everything down, it's probably pretty close though. Still, I'm taking the 2012 team.

2012 easily.

That was the best team in football that year.  They should have won the Super Bowl.  Plus they had way more talent.

QB: 2019 - You-Know-Who was a more dynamic athlete and capable of big plays, but Garappolo is much more consistent.

RB: 2012 - Raheem Mostert was a nice story, but Shanahan could have put the popcorn vendor in the back field and get solid production.

WR: 2019 - All 2012 had here was Miguel Lobsterbush. 2019's passing game was a lot more productive after they landed Emmanuel Sanders to go with Deebo Samuel.

TE: 2019 - Vernon Davis didn't click with You-Know-Who whereas Jimmy/Kittle is one of the deadliest tandems in the league now.

OL: 2012 - By far the most underrated component of the 2012 team.

DL: 2019

LB: 2012

DB: Push

ST: 2012

Coaching: Push

This is wildly incorrect. 2012 Kaep was a force and at that time one of the best offensive players in the game. Several levels above 2019 Jimmy.
