I wouldn't mind having Chris Spielman as GM and Robert Saleh HC Both could want the best for the lions and try so seeing one is from Dearborn and Chris's history with the Lions.

Why is that factoring into your decision at all? IMO it should be all about the football. Not about the feel good stories or the politics of hiring locals.

What are your thoughts on him?

He is the most successful and experienced guy from the names being thrown out (10 years with 2x SB's) but his 1st rd picks feel like they're really hit and miss.

  • 2007(20) Aaron Ross Defensive back Texas
  • 2008(31) Kenny Phillips Defensive back Miami (Florida) < SB Year
  • 2009(29) Hakeem Nicks Wide receiver North Carolina
  • 2010(15) Jason Pierre-Paul Defensive end South Florida
  • 2011(19) Prince Amukamara Defensive back Nebraska
  • 2012(32) David Wilson Running back Virginia Tech < SB Year
  • 2013(19) Justin Pugh Tackle Syracuse
  • 2014(12) Odell Beckham Jr. Wide receiver Louisiana State
  • 2015(9) Ereck Flowers Tackle Miami (Florida)
  • 2016(10) Eli Apple Cornerback Ohio State
  • 2017(23) Evan Engram Tight end Mississippi

Im not sure. he does have 2 sb's like you said his draft picks have been a yo-yo. but if i recall he is aggressive if his team is in it

Interesting article on the GM/coaching search.  The article pointed out the lions will probably go with experience over first time hires. They pointed out, which I never really thought of the first time Gm and coaches we've had this century.

GM - Millen, Mayhew, Quinn - all first timers

coaches - Morninwheg, Marinelli, Schwartz, Patricia - 1st time

experienced - Mariucci, Caldwell

Also stated candidates were hesitant to come here with the Lions power structure with a non-football guy as team president. Went on to say the Jaguars were the #1 destination, followed by Houston and the Jets.

Overall, the article gives a bad vibe for the Lions hire, which I expect from the FreePress. They just have a lot of info that kind of sways me to agreeing with the bad vibe.

Ernie Acorsi is a permanent special advisor to the Lions. When he retired, Jerry Reese took over.

If the team is looking for experience with those connections, it's a somewhat short list:

- Tom Coughlin

- Steve Spagnuolo

- Perry Fewell (Panthers Interim HC in 2019)

- Matt Rhule (He's not coming here but he fits the "is/has been a HC" list)

- Ben McAdoo
