What is everyone's opinion of John Runyan Jr? Is this a 2 contract guy? Does he move to RG over Newman if Jenkins returns? Is he even better than Newman, or just a year older?

Assuming he doesn't regress, I don't see why not.  He's a plug 'n play solid OG who you're probably not really concerned about.  Kinda reminds me of TJ Lang before he signed his extension.  As long as it doesn't cost a ton, I don't see any reason why Runyan wouldn't be in line for an extension when the time comes.  Newman didn't get beat physically.  He got beat mentally.  I'm not writing Newman off by any means, but the game needs to slow down for him.

Thoughts on Jordan Davis in our scheme? A man his size with his movement skills is insane. Would love to see what he could do next to Clark. Conditioning is the concern, but we'd have a fine rotation behind him.

You don't find big guys with those movement skills very often, and they're usually off the board pretty quickly.  I'd have no issues with taking him, but I don't think he's going to be on the board at 22.

No one is suggesting drafting him at 28?? I think at least a few people have. Moreover, some in the media are as well. I have no issue with the Packers picking Watson in round 2 or 3 but I  just don't see the guy helping much this season.

I mean, if you're discussing worst case scenarios and pigeonholing yourself into taking a WR in R1, sure.

I thought exactly the same thing when I read that post.  GB has been playing the waiting game at WR in the draft for two years running, and it's resulted in zero meaningful additions at the position.  I'm not seeing any reason to expect that strategy to work any better this year when several other teams are also looking to restock the position.  If GB doesn't place as high a value on WR as other teams, that's fine, but the "we'll get a good WR in round 2" philosophy is exactly what put GB in the position they are in today.

No, not drafting a guy who could play outside of MVS in the past 4 years is why we are in the situation we are in today.

Remind me which of these guys were first round picks when we were stacked: Nelson, Driver, Jennings, Jones, Adams and Cobb? Oh, and we had Finley at TE.

The way to rebuild the room is to dedicated 2nd or 3rd round picks to the position over multiple years. Then get lucky and have a 7th round prayer answered.

Depending on how the board looks at 22, I'm for trading down in round 1 to the top of round 2 and another pick. I don't know how the points value would add up and not looking it up. Grab a guy like Pickett in round 2 and sign a guy after June 1st cuts.

Then you can add another guy later in the draft. Next year, another second or third rounder.

I will say, I'm warming to the idea of Jameson Williams in round 1, sort of. Lukewarm at this point.

Like, I really don't know.  I thought the line was pretty good last season, but I am even more novice-er when looking at the OL.  It is difficult to evaluate a guard unless he stinks on ice, or is super dominant.

Pff stuff...

1053 snaps.  1 penalty.  2 sacks allowed.

71.1 pass blocking grade.  58.6 run blocking grade.  65.1 overall score.

#49 for scored guards.

Guess I feel like he is a league average guard.  Also feel like he's got room to grow yet as a blocker.

I like him, but it isn't like his spot couldn't be upgraded.

Also...feel like he is better than Newman at this point and time, so if there is a guard spot to be upgraded, I'd say it is Newman over Runyan.

This goes back to the Stephen Hill comp. if you’re that elite of a prospect, teams still get you the ball. A lot of the scouting reports explain why he was graded a third round pick pre combine.

PFF- dropped 16 of 120 catchable balls. Has problems tracking

NFL.com- uses extra steps. Lacks bend

Throw in the comp gap. This guy is too raw for top 50

He was graded a 3rd round pick because of the competition level, but then he went to the Senior Bowl and was the best WR (better than consensus 2nd round pick Jalen Tolbert). Then, he blew up at the combine and did well in the drills. I'm sure most scouts that he was athletic, but I doubt they thought he was Javon Walker athletic.

I feel I could argue pretty easily that Olave is better now, and in the future.  I see Alec Pierce, and I see a similar skillset to MVS.  I like Pierce, but I'm not drafting him Day 1.

And that's the beauty of evaluating players.  You give the exact same tape to 10 different scouts, you're probably going to have 10 different evaluations.  Does it mean that some are right and some are wrong?  No, it just comes down to what you're evaluating.

I see Jordy Nelson… but a more explosive Nelson. Jordy and MVS felt like distance runners and not sprinters. And when you look at their measurements that matches up.

Pierce has more explosion in his game. And at this point I want explosion. I want 0-60 in no time. MVS and Jordy got to full speed at like 15 or 20 yards. I want that in 5 yards because you can do more with it.

The only issue is his “agility” measurements. He is on par with Jordy (MVS blows them both out of the water though).

I think Pierce’s explosion allows him to be more than just MVS. MVS only every became… the shot play guy. They never developed him to do more. And he never got to be like Jordy with the back shoulder, and all the other stuff.

And that’s my point… I see Pierce as explosive Jordy. Olave feels like Greg Jennings. Greg was more explosive than Olave but Olave overall speed is better. And if we did a poll… I’m guessing 80% of packer fans would draft Jordy over Jennings in this upcoming draft.

Why do we keep seeing national and even local mocks having the Packers draft Raimann in the 1st? Lol the guy will be 30 at the end of his rookie deal.

Because outside of age he tracks for most things GB looks for in an offensive lineman and a high end lineman at that? Plus it’s not like he is old because he was like a redshirt senior or something where it took him forever to develop.

Didnt he do military service? It’s kind of like what happens at times with BYU players and them doing missions in college.

I feel like Olave has become overrated. To me, he's got the ceiling of a high end #2 and doesn't exactly fit with what the Packers want at outside WR. There isn't a lot to separate him from Jahan Dotson and Skyy Moore to me. People talk about Watson's contested catch ability. At least, he has some potential in that area and has contested catches on tape. Olave is not going to be a contested catch guy in the NFL nor will he offer much YAC ability. In some offenses Olave will fit better. For what the Packers need (speed, jet motion, blocking, kick returner) Watson is ideal.

For a WR of Nelson size he was fast with superb running technique due to his track background and he was able to change direction very well to continue his YAC run and that what made him special. He was a big framed WR who could hold off DBs, jump and pluck the ball out of the air including those legendary over the shoulder catches. He really was a complete WR. I promise you Pierce is nothing like him. He's in fact stylistically much closer to MVS.

Alec Pierce indeed is surprisingly similar to MVS. Both are somewhat skinny framed but quick. Both are not great changing direction in open field after the catch and is easily brought down. You can see they are lacking the agility aspect of Nelson's game. I would give MVS the edge in straight line speed but Pierce is much better at jumping up and catching the ball. Pierce has some elements of Jordy's over the shoulder catch ability in his locker. If MVS was considered one dimensional as a WR then Pierce has to be considered one dimensional too but that ability to jump up and bring the ball down might give him that edge. He's only a marginal upgrade and if MVS went in the 5th round then Pierce is a 3-4th round WR.

Might it be as simple as RAS is given more credence to some positions more than others? I honestly don't know. But I think it's a question worth asking at least.

RAS is fine as a research tool if it is synched with circumstances. If you are a short, fairly slight receiver, your RAS will suffer accordingly, even if you are a terrific slot guy. If you are an injury prone stork that has a fast 40 but takes time to hit full speed and poor hands, your RAS score will flatter to deceive. You might be a slowish DB, but if receivers find it very hard to escape you at the line of scrimmage (see Richard Sherman) your lower RAS doesn't do you justice. RAS can't see inside a guys head or evaluate how football-wise (instinctive) he is, or score character.

On the other hand, if you want to develop a mid to later round pick, a good RAS score is a good place to start when sifting through the many possibilities. A very high RAS score can help confirm the good tape you just watched on an early draft prospect. As long as it is only a part of an overall player evaluation, no problem. Over-value it, and expect to get burned often. For every T.J.Watt (9.92) there is a Kendall Donnerson (9.89).

James Washington went 60 that year, DJ Chark 61, two guys who were graded as deep specialists. MVS has been more productive than both.

If you comp someone out as MVS, that player is a day 2 pick. No way in hell you get that skillset on day 3. The guy just got 10 per AAV. We got him where we did because he was an unheralded prospect.

Pierce would be a fantastic pick and 53 or 59 depending on what we do round 1.
