No one is saying tank...if we tank then FAs don't want to come here...we need to play tough and win the games we should and not get blown out in the games we should lose...trading Mack and cutting guys like Cohen & Trevathan doesn't mean you are setting up to tank...just means you are setting up not to try and add pieces to make a real run at the playoffs...if we finish 7-10...8-9...9-8 with Fields looking better then that is a solid point to move off of...this isn't a complete rebuild...just need to direct some of that cap in the right direction moving forward.

This team will field the worst roster in the division, possibly a bottom 5 roster in the NFL. This is a complete rebuild.

It really isn't dude...again trading Mack away does not rip this roster down...it was clear that sooner rather than later one of the highly paid 30+ pass rushers would be gone...what else have we lost? a RB who isn't healthy...a LB who isn't healthy...probably a NT who doesn't seem to have his heart in the game or indeed fit the scheme...we probably also lose a WR who didn't produce last season (for many reasons) and who doesn't have the traits the GM has said he wants...

How are we so much worse than last season?

Bears were already a bottom 10 team in 2021. It's not a stretch to think they'll be worse in 2022. They're installing a completely new offense and defense. And they've lost the following starters:

  • Allen Robinson (WR1)
  • Jason Peters (LT)
  • James Daniels (RG)
  • Khalil Mack (EDGE)
  • Akiem Hicks (DT)
  • Bilal Nichols (DT)

The more I look at the interior OL available in FA the more I would love to see us really attack the 2nd & 3rd tier for solid guys...Trai Turner just makes a ton of sense for us to target given he spent this past season with Morgan in Pittsburgh & brings the type of size/length/athletic profile Poles seems to be saying he wants...if he is looking for another 1 year $3 million deal it fits our price range especially if we do spend to bring James Daniels back…getting a guy like Turner takes a lot of pressure off finding a starting OL in the draft from day 1.

They haven't lost Daniels or Nichols yet...as I said Mack was always going sooner rather than later and played 7 games last season...Hicks played in 9 games and is even older...it is time to move on from these guys when you're not a contender...we aren't losing much from Robinson following last season and when it comes to Peters it was a miracle he made it through the season healthy given his history...

Mack is clearly a loss when he is 100%...the rest of these guys all have major question marks.

Looking at his contract it looks like any team trading for Goldman gets 2 years and $17M (8.7 and 8.3) in non-guaranteed salary for his age 28 and 29 seasons. That’s not a huge hit for a guy who’s probably a top 5 3-4 NT when he’s on. Could definitely see a team with space who wants to take a less risky swing on upside than that which comes with high guarantees at the top of the FA market trading a conditional 2023 pick for a flyer on him. Probably wouldn’t be much - a conditional 7 that could be a 6, or a 6 that could be a 5. Anything would be better than nothing.

He's very talented.

I just see Bears fans thinking higher than he is likely worth to others on market.

Goldman is throwing out all the red flags for a guy you don't want on your team of late.   Probably released and picked up by someone.

I wouldn't be shocked if he retires depending on how he is doing financially.

All of these moves were pretty much expected, but it is still surprising to see it all happening all in the last two days. This season is all about how Fields progresses and that is all Bears fans should be looking to (as far as the actual season is concerned).

You are right that they are likely last in NFCN and I imagine we will be drafting  high in 2023.   But I don't know that they will be that much worse overall than last year.

A full offseason with Fields will be very helpful.  I feel like they are going to invest at OL and WR this offseason in first or 2nd wave FA.

  • ARob pretty much mailed it in last year.
  • Peters was a mauler at times, but couldn't handle speed.
  • Daniels was not good quite often and got lost.
  • Mack was hurt much of year.
  • Hicks was hurt much of year.
  • Nichols was okay and he might be re-signed.

Defense was already pretty bad much of time and may be a bit worse this year due to losses and rebuilding.

Schedule is way easier than last year too. Waaaay easier.   Bears play Texans, Giants, Jets, Falcons, Dolphins and Eagles.

Clearly with the release teams we’re willing to just wait for us to cut him. There was really no scenario in which he fit with what Flus will want to do. 🤷‍♂️

It wasn't just that.   Some lever switched on him when he sat out 2020.   He never really came back and lost motivation.

Someone will give him a chance still because he is talented, but no one was going to give something up for him.

The only person on this list that is actually gone at this point in time is Mack

This one doesn't surprise me... Goldman is/was your prototypical NT in a 3-4 defense, outstanding really. He's not what you're looking for in a 4-3 and there were rumblings about if his heart was really still in it after sitting out his COVID season.
