DinoZ
Marino has a career comp% of 59.4, his career passer rating a 86.4. How would he do vs these edge rushers today being totally unable to extend plays.
DinoZ
Trust me these defenders today on a whole other than what those oldies faced. A far faster game now, a statue like Marino,....no chance.
Jlowe22
60 tds, 6k yards might happen, for sure if it goes to 18 games. But it would have never happened in 16 games.
TecmoSuperJoe
Would depend on his situation, but offenses and rules are so much in favor of the QB now that he'd probably have multiple 1984 type seasons. Peyton didn't retire that long ago like someone else mentioned, so what everyone has seen is probably more of what you'd see now.

So he probably would have closer to a 70% in todays game. Same with passer rating but even more dramatic.
DinoZ
So the fact todays defenders are far superior to what Marino faced means nothing?
NeptunePenguins
So is Dan Marino the GOAT then?
Tk3
I don't buy that numbers "scale up" with inflation. Say a player in the 90s was 20% bigger, better, and more talented than all of his peers back that. That DOESN'T mean he would be 20% bigger, better, and more talented than his peers today. Sure, he would have some boost from the systems that are allowing our current players to be better, but he's going to be facing much stiffer competition. I just don't think it works the way OP suggests. If anything I think those guys would potentially struggle because they likely WOULDN'T have the talent gap today that they were able to achieve back then All of that said, I think they would be the elites now just like they were in their prime - I just don't think they would have this monumental gap in today's era
Danger
Average? 40-45 TDs. With highs in the high 50s.

Accounting for inflation in passing numbers - Marino wouldve had the most yards, most TDs, and I think the highest PR and ANY/A - - EVER! Why would the modern statistical adjustments cut down on the number of interceptions he threw? Cause he averaged a ton of interceptions every year throughout his career. ronjon1990
Do they play for the current Colts and Dolphins? Peyton might still be on what was his usual pace. Marino probably looks like a Hall of Very Good QB with what the Dolphins are working with. A good year Matt Ryan type of sorts. Speaks to the talent that would be around them. Blackstar12
Depends on the team put them on the Jags not much. The Chiefs Vikings or Cowboys incredible numbers especially with one added game.
Soko
Neither Peyton nor Marino were averaging historically great (from a number’s perspective) seasons in their respective eras. In Peyton’s case, largely against the same field or caliber of field that is still in the league today.
