Yeah, this one seems like it would be a very interesting read from 1 to 32. Talent by and large is subjective, so would like to see the method of data collection on this one...

There isn't much to the method.  Pick a rating service for objectivity and add up the ratings of the team's starters.  More elaborate versions weight the positions.  There are a number of such "geek blogs" focusing on fantasy football, few of whom are big on self-promotion.  I don't know how many people here would be interested--this is really nerdy stuff--but anyone who would like to discreetly view one of the less tedious ones can message me for a link.

1 to 32?  No problem (other than alignment; I couldn't get the Code function to work).  The one below uses you-know-who for its aggregated data (but includes DVOAs and FPPGs in data lines), listed here with Overall, Offense, and Defense totals for each team.  This was last updated after Week #13.  Among other uses, I like to compare these to the DVOAs to see which teams are over- and under-performing.

watching shanahan and todd downing call offenses back and forth last night, the contrast was immense. downing called a brutal game and was dragged to victory by AJ brown, while shanahan was getting guys wide open and was sunk by garoppolo. it's very obvious that that magic shanny pulled with matt ryan in ATL is still there, waiting to be unleashed with the right QB (especially with guys like deebo, aiyuk, and kittle at the skill positions...whew). it's just as obvious, however, that jimmy g isn't that guy.

Certainly fair to criticize Kyle the team builder, Kyle the talent evaluator and even Kyle the head coach.

No.  That is what is so fascinating.  Those are his strengths.  By any objective measure he has collected the most talent in the league, strong on both sides of the ball.  As a head coach he deals admirably with the S.F. press, arguably the worst in the NFL.  Free agents have no qualms about joining the 49ers.

We can and do question Kyle's play calling, especially after last night's fiasco, but his most salient flaw is that he has lost any perspective at the QB position (what the geeks call "amaurosis quarterbacchus") since arriving in San Francisco.  Exhibit A:  Jimmy Garoppolo.  Exhibit B:  Trey Lance (over Mac Jones, no less).

There may be good news on the horizon for 49er fans.  If the mock drafts we are seeing now are even remotely accurate Shanahan might get unspeakably lucky in the second round of the 2022 draft.  You heard it here first! :)

With which assertion are you disagreeing?  That Shanahan is a demonstrably good judge of talent at every other position or that he has a glaring blind spot at QB?

There is nothing that supports Shanahan is a particularly good talent evaluator.

He's got hits, he's got misses. There's nothing to support the idea that he's anything special in that regard and any opinion on either side of the line is simply that...an opinion.
