7DnBrnc53
I think Paton had to. There is new ownership coming in, and they may not want Vic Fangio as the HC of their team.

I would love to have Fangio as DC. But we already have a DC in Hill even if Staley is the one calling plays. I doubt Staley would screw over his own guy. Wished Fangio was fired last season. Then it may have happened.
biggie.
51 minutes ago, SkippyX said: This There are lots of really good football minds who fail as HCs. Someone made the point that if the Broncos were able to trade for Wilson or Rodgers that he might be preparing for the bye. A stud QB would not have changed his flaws, but it would have hid them pretty well. He deserved the chance for the job and he deserved to be fired. Good luck in his next role. This pretty much. Any team that needs to fix their defense needs to get him on the phone ASAP.
Broncofan
OMG this is such a weight off the DEN fanbase's shoulders. Amazing DC, top 5 for sure. Bottom 5 in all other HC skills. Zero accountability. Awful challenge flag decisions. Non-existent understanding of TO use and game management. Basically, everything that influences games between even-talent teams. DEN had a 4th place schedule, faced 4 bottom 5 teams and still finished 7-10. And a major addition to the context of our D - it was the highest cap allocation at 95M going into the season (trading away Von Miller, and other teams acquiring D talent, no longer the case). And while it kept pts low, it wasn't a sack/TO heavy D, so it kept us in games, but while it was at our legendary, generational No Fly Zone D level in pts allowed - it was nowhere near the disruptive, win-games by big-plays and big-stops that the 2015 generational D was. So yeah, keeping Fangio was NEVER a good idea. Anyone who thought so was blinded by fear of the unknown in replacing his DC abilities. GM Paton has really made every right move so far in his 1st year, except for finding the QB. This is his chance to both upgrade our QB, and get the HC/OC to complement said QB. I have a LOT of faith so far, this was absolutely the right call. Unlike other years, where I felt we were headed in the right direction, but we weren't ready yet to be legit contenders in a sustainable way like 2012-15, we get the big QB upgrade and hire the right HC/OC combo - we're officially back, baby! Ty21
I don’t think anyone expected success as a HC for him, but he is an excellent DC.
Kip Smithers
So would Denver have been a near lock playoff team without Fangio?

He's horrible when it comes to in game decision making, but I think we would've easily made the playoffs with adequate QB play.
Broncofan
3 hours ago, Kip Smithers said: So would Denver have been a near lock playoff team without Fangio? His game management blunders were likely the difference in the CIN & likely the CLE game. 9-8 instead of 10-7. To be fair, the QB play was just as bad - but he also put his loyalty behind OC Shurmur and STC McMahon this past offseason - and we were once again a bottom 5 ST unit and a terribly designed O. Fangio stuck by those 2, he definitely takes responsibility. So yes, we're near playoffs without Fangio this year. But we'd likely have gone nowhere. But upgrading the HC/OC/ST coaching AND getting the QB - we're legitimately can say we're a division title contender. Obviously that's easier said than done most years, but this is the one offseason where we might get that instant elite QB upgrade.
viking
He will be in high demand to be a DC next season for sure
Sugashane
He's especially in demand for anyone hiring a first time offensive HC. Pay Fangio top coordinator money, make him Assistant Head Coach and own that side of the ball, then let the new HC own the offense and branch out as he gets experience.
Jraider91
If we can get Harbaugh & Fangio that would be ideal as a Raider fan. D hasn't been bad this year but you absolutely move off Bradley for Fangio all day & night.
DABEARSLCF04
Come back to Chicago Fangio, your DC spot is there for ya.
