HC search is going on without the GM & the most important way to acquire players is the draft. Patriots free agents were by and large dissapointing this year anyway.

The GM/HC decision will be made in unison meaning the HC decision will be heavily influenced by the GM hire.

The draft is absolutely the best way to acquire talent but we have a ton of players scheduled to hit FA this year and we only have 7 draft picks. That means lots of holes will be filled in FA in the near term.

Again, the draft is important but there are many other variables to consider when making a GM hire. Mayock is a prime example of that. He was brought in for his drafting chops (which he failed at) but he also failed miserably at salary cap management, contract management and contract structure.

ESPN ranked the Raiders draft class 4th best. Mostly because of Moehrig and Hobbs, and Deablo and Leatherwoods mediocre play. The whole article really screamed to me how bad this entire 2021 draft class looks. Or, maybe not bad, but just overly mediocre from top to bottom.

Yeah but we have all our picks on days 1 and 2, which are the most important. Having a couple extra 4ths/5ths/6ths is pretty much meaningless.

It was a good class.  But the leatherwood pick just speaks to ignoring value/obviously not good players just because the coaches want them.

Cable should be out of the league next year.

Would be fun to wake up to a Dodds hiring.

I like Dodds during a simple reason that doesn't have anything really to do with his chops as a gm. Because honestly we don't know how he will do. All we know is he is and has been highly sought after. The reason I like him is his responses to questions or praise. Dude is like gtfoh with all that until we get that trophy 😆 🤣 😂

Cap management & contract management are often assistant-GM roles, or a specialist in the case of cap management.

Feels like if Dodds is hired the expectations for him will be so high from fans and if he is not hired the blow from him pulling his name out or him turning the job down will be another low blow to this franchise.

I like the Pittsburgh guy Brandon Hunt as well.

I'm genuinely curious why so many love Dodds. I read and posted that article months ago and really liked what I read, but suddenly it's like Dodds or bust for most of Raidernation. What am I missing? Is it the thin Harbaugh connection?

I like Hunt to fwiw. End of the day, who knows how any of these guys will pan out. The job is so nuanced.

That said, the bar is pretty low in Vegas for a GM. Just don't reach on a first round pick and we will applaud you.
