R T
Nothing surprising yet, but it will be a disappointing day if Cobb is not released. If he stays on his current contract the inmates truly are running the nuthouse.

Yeah if we keep Cobb and cut Turner I'm very concerned

Subtract the notable free agents, add 7 rookies. That’s what you get. And it’s going to be a team good enough to win one or two playoff games, not not more. Well two playoff wins last year would take us to the super bowl. And if you get to the super bowl you have a chance to win it. So what you are saying is all we are going to get next year is a team capable of reaching the super bowl. Its the downside of having two HOF QBs I guess. People don't realise how rubbish it is to watch a team whose season is over by December. Novelty of that will wear off very quickly I can assure you. I don't think anyone should have any illusions that its going to be an easy off-season. The target is to have a team close to last season in strength. If we do that then we are going to be in fantastic position for 2020. It wont be easy and we probably need some of the younger players to take a jump. Sandy
Turner was shocking. A restructure or an extension seemed more logical. At least we're already cap compliant assuming Rappaports inferences on Rodgers' deal prove correct. I'd still like to see extensions consimated for Adams, Alexander and Amos (and as everyone is saying, have Cobb cut or agree to a significant pay decrease) to give us about $30m in cap space entering free agency. Add o-line to the top needs list for now.

What does any of this have to do with the economics of the NFL? or the Packers current situation? Adams is widely considered the best WR in the league. The Packers are in this situation because they gave away all of their leverage by catering to a pompous quarterback who now thinks he's the GM too. Yes, TJ Watt was 26 and Adams is 29. All the more reason Adam's agent is going to make sure he cashes in bigtime this contract. Its different because Adams at 29 doesn't have time on his side. He is very money focused more so than any other Packers player I can remember - I can't see him holding out as every week he sits out is money lost. He can't threaten to sit a year as next year he has hit the 30 mark which is a red flag for a skill based position that relies on his athleticism (maybe he doesn't have elite top end speed but he is quick and receiver is not a position where you want to be slow). Packers probably considered letting him go for nothing so its not the end of the world at all if he retired or something like that - might actually work out better for us than signing him to a crazy deal. Packers have all the leverage with this. Its going to be annoying to have to have 20m frozen if he holds out but just annoying.

If teams don't think he is worth his current contract then all you are buying is the rights to take on a bad contract. What is that worth ? A 7th, maybe a 6th at most if you are all-in and really really want the player. Does imply they think Nijman can play RT or that Jenkins will be back for next season relatively early. In either of these scenarios the cut would make sense.

If they want him to play on a cut down contract its a bit different though as they will negotiating so may want to use the cuts as the quickest way under the cap. Then have time to sort out Cobb which could be more complicated. They might be trying to do something close to Vet min but with a lot of incentives. incognito_man
I'm holding out hope there is a handshake deal with Turner for an extension after Adams gets done or something.

There is nothing complicated about it, it's a minute discussion between agent and Ball.
