Mularkey must still be pissed about getting fired. You suck dude, get the hell over it. You wouldn’t fire your geriatric OC, so they moved on. As far as Horton, he can GTFO too. They also had sham interviews with Marone and Teryl Austin at the time as well. Don’t see them crying anywhere. Horton was **** as a coach so let’s not act like he was a qualified candidate regardless. I can guarantee this, most teams have their minds made up well before they even do interviews. They know who they want. Blame the rule, not the teams.

The hiring process for Mularkey was a sham but this honestly feels like more of a problem with the “Rooney” Rule itself than with the Titans.

Yeah that’s how I see it as well. Fired whisenhunt in middle of season and hired Mularkey as interim head coach. Team wants to stick with interim coach moving forward but is forced by rule to interview to fulfill Rooney rule.

Yeah. But its not a good look at this time.

Definitely not a good look. Funny thing is it wasn’t a good look back then either but the lawsuit enhances this even more.

It’ll be a sad case of irony if the guy AAS wanted so badly, that she ran a sham coaching search for, ratting her out is the reason she and the team gets in trouble.

there are 26 teams mentioned in the lawsuit, and frankly i'd venture that all 32 have engaged in sham rooney rule hiring processes. that doesn't make what we did better- at all. everyone knew that process was a sham even at the time, and it's disgraceful. but it does seem less likely that there will be individual punishment meted out to teams.

I mean, if you have a non black head coach in mind, isn’t every single non black coach hire you make have a sham interview involved? Every team that’s hired a non black head coach since the Rooney rule has had a sham interview. Change the stupid racist rule.

The Mularkey hiring process was obviously a sham. But it was no more racist than the dozens of other NFL head coaching “searches” that end with a predetermined generic white coach. Arguably less so since Mularkey was an inside hire that had already been the head coach for months.

Which is in no way saying the lawsuit has no basis, just saying it’d be nearly impossible for the league to specifically single us out for punishment.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The Rooney rule sounds great from the outside looking in. Everyone gets a job opportunity, but when you've already got who you want in mind, ALL other interviews are formalities, not just the coaches of color interviews.
