Same things as every other player who opted to re-sign rather than test free agency. It’s not uncommon.

Every other player has the risk of having that offer rescinded. There has never been a QB in Kirk's position, and this won't happen.

Complete open market, would be if Washington doesn't transition tag him. But I still think they will

There's no real difference in terms of what Kirk can be offered. For all intent's and purposes, transition tag = open market.

What can they figure out? If they offer him $100 million a year he can still accept it after he goes to FA to see if somebody else offers him more. They will Transition tag him and might keep him, but he will get to talk to other teams.

They aren't going to transition tag him. They have a ton of cap space going into next season and they'll just franchise him again. Yes it will be $34M but they can easily afford it. The only other contract they really have to worry about is Zach Brown. Kirk will never hit the open market this off-season. Not going to happen.

I sincerely doubt we end up seeing another franchise tag. By then the Redskins will have essentially paid Kirk $26 million a year for 3 years 100% guaranteed, they could just sign him to a deal for that much.

Yes, but the money already paid on the first two tags are sunk costs. It has no bearing on the money being paid moving forward. They've already paid him that.

Bruce and Dan don't care about the money. If they can't come to an agreement they have no qualms about tagging him for a third time. Kirk will never hit the open market in 2018. In 2019, maybe. But he's not going to hit the open market this off-season.

They've basically already said they have no issues tagging him a third time if it came to that. The only way he's leaving Washington is if Bruce and Dan simply decide they want to move on. Otherwise, he's staying.

Why would they franchise him a third time instead of just offering $26 or $27 million a year?

Yeah, but is the cap going to go up??? We could actually see a slight decline in the cap if the rumours about declining TV audience is correct and what effect will that have on salaries for QB's???

I for one, will no longer watch a game on Fox who is a huge Trump supporter and has turned their news into a Trump worship station. Could that be what is driving NFL TV viewership down? Just a thought!!!

Skins will either franchise tag or transition tag him. You don't let very good QBs in their prime leave. $34M or sending your team to the bottom of East possibly multiple years

The same reason they wouldn't offer him $20M and $24M a year but tagging him at those numbers. What they're doing doesn't make sense but apparently they feel comfortable doing it.
