Buccaneers LB Devin White requests trade

Probably the highest risk at LBer you can make right now. Serious effort questions last year. Always been “taken care of” so to speak, by playing next to David. Not fantastic in coverage. But also an exceptional athlete, only 25, reliably healthy, and is one of the best pass rushers as an off-ball LBer.

Not just playing next to David.....but also gets to play clean a lot when Vea is playing.   The reason why the TAM D was so fearsome in 2020 was having 3 legit pass rushers at the edge, Vea & Suh up the middle, and creating massive havoc - which the LB's and DB's could leverage into takeaway chances and an easier job in coverage / run D.   As the up-front pressure has lessened, we've seen a lot of the different weaknesses with guys on that back 7 show up.

Don't get me wrong, he's fantastic as an uncovered, see-ball-chase-ball guy vs. the run, and a massive threat in pass rush.    But he also gets washed out when Vea isn't there clogging up the middle, and he's an absolute liability in pass coverage.   This is not a complete ILB monster we're talking about here.    As an off-ball ILB, that's a dicey prop to pay top-of-the-market $ to.

Warren Sapp certainly isn’t the smartest guy around, but he’s on point here:

Doesn’t even show the play where the rookie center backed him 20 yards downfield. He’s got so much potential because of his athleticism but buyer beware.

Oh you mean this play?!

Sadly, no.

Maybe he literally crapped himself or something, but that’s an embarrassing effort throughout that game, even more so when you consider how strong/fast he actually is.

You see those stats, but then go look at his PFF grades.

he is an absolutely perplexing player...

Defensive stats can regularly be perplexing, especially when comparing to PFF grades

Marcus Davenport (now on the Vikings) looks like a mid to low level rotational player if you look at his stats…. If you look at his PFF grade he’s a Top 20 DE who should be on the field for every play.

eye test is somewhere in between

I would easily trade my compensatory 3rd rounder for white.

Might even throw in another day 3 pick in 24'.

Not sure what his value is??

But he's got a 90+ speed rating in Madden & him partnered with Jamin Davis ( also 90+ speed rating)

Would look very nice behind Payne,Allen, Young & Sweat. 😁

Go get'm Ron.

Didn't he play a big role in them winning the bowl in 20?

Absolutely - but again, he was given clean looks, and didn't have to worry too much about covering players.   That DL / EDGE combo made life so easy for him.   If Vea doesn't play it becomes even more obvious what White struggles with.   2020's D basically was the perfect combo to hide the 2 big flaws in his game.

Again, he's a great chase-the-ball guy when he's free, and an absolute pass rush threat.   But getting washed out, and not covering well, that's not even close to a top 5 ILB, and certainly not for market FA $ he's likely seeking.

And just like that, all of your prediction posts over the years make sense.
