Preseason/Training Camp Disappointments

It’s Texans LG Kenyon Green. Was highly regarded as the 15th pick last season, was constantly dealing with nagging injuries and conditioning issues last season, had minor knee surgery this offseason, took longer than expected to recover, and is woefully behind schedule on his development as a key member of the Texans OL - it’s possible that FA journeyman Michael Deiter beat him out at LG and Green spends the season on the bench.

Every other young player has taken steps forward except for Green. He’s actually regressed from a poor rookie season, and is probably a trade candidate next preseason.

You absolutely cannot miss on a guard taken at 15.

…and it’s looking more and more like it’s a miss. It’s the first pick used from the Deshaun Watson trade as well, so that further complicates everything.

I hope I’m wrong, but a poor rookie showing, followed up by a poor offseason, a poor preseason ultimately culminating in a season-ending IR trip means that arrow is pointing WAY down right now.

Tyquan Thornton. Come on, man. We needed him to step up. Still has frightening speed, but he's just not an option to throw to.

Bailey Zappe is not a disappointment. He is what he always has been - a limited QB, and he's been terrible this offseason. He's like a worse Mac Jones. Only casuals thought there was a QB battle.

For the Browns, Cade York is really the only one that stands out as being truly disappointing.

Browns fans were hoping Anthony Schwartz would start to show something, but most didn't really expect him to do much. Glad the team finally moved on from him. Dude sucks.

Kaiir Elam.

His draft stock alone should give him an edge for the CB2 job but Dane Jackson was the most consistent throughout camp and Benford (a 6th round rookie last year) looked really good in the pre-season games. Elam is very grabby and is struggling with spacing in zone.

In 2006 the Bills took DT John McCargo in round 1 and DT Kyle Williams in round 5. Williams was the much better player.

In 2008 the Bills took WR James Hardy (RIP) in round 2 and WR Stevie Johnson in round 7. Johnson was the much better player.

Is history repeating itself all these years later?

Yeah, I wasn't too high on Elam. A soft CB from U of Florida a la CJ Henderson and Teez Tabor. They just seem to take plays off and can't handle any physicality whatsoever.

I will never trust corners from Florida.

Came here to say this. Elam has been so disappointing but at the same time Benford has looked great when given the chance.

Elam looks like he's thinking way too much and not playing fast and free. Hopefully he can turn it around.
