It absolutely matters what a first round project QB looks like in his first two years when you have to make a decision on their 5th year option at the start of year 4. It basically gives you one season of reference if they start in year 3. It especially matters if you end up in the top 2 or 3 picks in the draft and what you’ve seen from them hasn’t been good.
