It's not an abstract logo, it's a fleur-de-lis which is a symbol used throughout history to signify royalty. It's used in the emblems of many cities' coat of arms to symbolize power, particularly in France. It also is used to represent saints. So a symbol that is connected to saints and France is perfect for a team from New Orleans which has heavy Catholic and French roots. I don't care much for the team name "Saints" in the religious context since I'm not religious, but it fits perfectly for the city of New Orleans. The franchise was founded on All Saints Day, and that is what they were named after. So it's a name that fits perfectly for the team.

The song "When the Saints Go Marching In" has throughout many generations been a very popular song with connections to New Orleans, dating back to the early 1900s. That song is about the apocalypse. So if we're talking about how intimidating a team name is, you could think about the Saints marching in to the Superdome or whatever stadium they're playing in, and the impending doom they will bring to the other team.

So...is a Texan just someone from Texas?

And I still don't know what a Packer is supposed to be. I know they were named after some service company, but...It's a strange name to me.

The Packers took its name after Curly Lambeau, a shipping clerk for the Indian Packing Company at the time, successfully asked the company's owner for money for jerseys and use of the company's athletic field in 1919.  The Indian Packing Co. was purchased in 1920 by the Acme Packing Company. Acme continued to support the team, which played its first NFL season with "ACME PACKERS" emblazoned on its jerseys.  I think ACME PACKERS was only on the jerseys that one season.

I like the name only because of the history behind it.

Well we are named after a Buffalo hunter so it doesn't get cooler than that. The issue is that no one thinks that we are named after a Buffalo hunter. I mean our mascot is a Buffalo... The logo is a Buffalo running with streaks of blood coming out of the side. But no one knows what the name and the logo really mean so I think we should embrace the meaning more..  get a mountaineer mascot dressed as Buffalo Bill and update the logo a bit so people know that red streak is blood
