Raiders Trade WR Davante Adams to Jets

This probably doesn't save their season, but great for the Jets. I like how this trade happens less than a day when Rodgers was at the podium essentially blaming Mike Williams for running the wrong route.

To be clear - it would be nuts to say Davante Adams doesn't help the O.   

But, here's the thing:

1.   NYJ taking on all the $ for 2025-6 - that's 35M per year, for 2025-6.     That's an insane resource allocation for this squad, when they had an alpha in Wilson.

2.  A-Rod's pretty clearly going from year-to-year.    There is no guarantee he's going to make it through to 2026, especially with the beating his body is now taking.

3.  Said pick cost isn't terrible at a 4th, but at a 2nd, if Adams hits whatever benchmarks are set, that's a brutal price at his age/salary....and that's assuming the Jets don't absolutely collapse (which if they lost A-Rod for any period of time, could absolutely happen - he's getting beaten up each game now). 

Frankly, I would have hoped the Jets put in benchmarks that were outcome based for the team, not the player.  The worst would be Adams siphoning off Garrett Wilson work, triggering the 2nd round escalator - and the Jets don't make playoffs, or don't go far.    But I would expect as the Jets literally caved to the no-salary demands, and included a 2nd in the outcome of pick return, they probably didn't ask for a team-based outcome.

 

Then you add in that Adams had the Raiders in a terrible position, and no other team had this kind of urgency - man, Jets & A-Rod bailed out GM Telesco & Raiders FO in a big way.
