I'm not super concerned about Smiths' injury. If he was starting, that meant that Foster was likely riding the bench, and I'd rather have Foster on the field anyway (unless we suddenly about face and put Foster at SAM). I don't think that there's much difference in depth between Smith and Ray Ray.

Its not so much about difference in skillset, its difference in experience and familiarity within the scheme. Smith was looking terrific by all accounts. He knows this system, inside and out, and was one of the few defenders who could help others adapt to the the structure of the defense, on the field. Ray and Ray and Smith have similar skillsets but Smith is the better player. Now is it a crippling loss? Not at all. But you never want to see a player who seemed to be really thriving, shelved for extended period time.  Ray Ray being here helps soften the blow, no doubt. But I was really hoping to see Smtih return to his SB MVP form, under Saleh. Seems we might have just been robbed of that opportunity...

Austin  Pasztor is still a FA. Has played decently well at his stops in the NFL and even has some experience at RT. He's still relatively young at 26, wouldn't mind seeing him brought in if anything for depth purposes for our interior OL, sounds like we are down to Fusco, Beadles and maybe Zuttah/Kilgore at OG, that's it.

Might as well. The more competition on the OLine the better.

Not sure Pastzor is a fit for a ZBS. And I read a tweet where Shanny said they were confident in the veteran guys that have behind Garnett so it sounds like they're content on Beadles until Garnett comes back in a month.

Zuttah keeps getting mentioned but it seems like it will be Beadles replacing Garnett. If Schefter is fight in saying he will be out a month, doesn't that mean he will have a chance to return by week 1?

It would be about right, but hard to win the starting job that quickly. Beadles/Zuttah would have to be disasters.

In fairness, it's not like Baalke was bad at everything. I just don't think he could truly evaluate players from a value perspective, and I think far too beholden to his own methodology. Had to be the smartest guy in the room. There are a considerable number of jobs I could imagine he'd excel at for the NFL. That being said, just don't have any of his duties include the NFL draft....

Baalke: "It is with great pleasure, that I announce that we have awarded the 2019 NFL draft to the great city of Funkley, Minnesota. We feel that the sky is the limit for this up and coming city. I have personally evaluated it from top to bottom, and I think this is a future star city in the making. Just trust me on this"

I'm impressed with Hoyer but Goodwin is no slouch either. Hoyer the next Matt Schaub?

Schaub was far more talented in my opinion. People have forgotten just how good he was before the injuries started getting to him and he fell off a cliff. There was about a 4 year period in there where you could make a legit case for him in the top 10. Cousins would more or less be my comp for peak Schaub. Hoyer would be closer to 2010 - 2012 Ryan Fitzpatrick for me.

Oh right now no doubt thats a fair comp for Hoyer but as far as his ceiling he could be Matt Schaub like. We dont have prime Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels but we might be able to make some noise here if this positivity continues.
