It's Christmas time.......

Ian Rapoport -  It’s that time year: Colts CB Pierre Desir earned $350K in incentives yesterday after grabbing two interceptions. That gave him 3 on the year. This is part of the 3-year, $22.5M contract he signed this past spring.

Agreed, it's a very simple rule. You have the option to kick, receive, pick either direction, or defer your choice to the second half. Don't say kick, you're a damn professional. How many times have you been in that same situation?

This whole situation has just educated the average football fan (even a lot of the more experienced ones) on how the actual rule works. It is FINE the way it is, we are just seeing the 2nd or 3rd time it has been screwed up by a player.

A team screws this up like every other year. No sympathy.

Straight off the street, I give you......

Ian Rapoport -  Marshawn Lynch and the Seahawks are open to a reunion, and Lynch has told people he plans to travel to Seattle today to discuss it.

This does not end well for Seattle. Guy is probably 280 pounds and completely out of shape.

If thats the case, it's not exactly "fine"

Change the terms to the actual action sought: kick or receive.
Thats it. What do you want to do? Kick or receive? Done. In simple terms even an athlete can absorb and retain.

There is no "defer" play in football.

Actually there is because each team gets one option. If you win the coin toss you can defer your option/choice to the second half. If you choose an option after winning the coin toss, the other team gets that choice in the second half. Even if your choice is to kick the ball to start the game.

What you are doing if you defer is deferring your option until the second half kick off. It's not rocket science.

Yeah i agree with this to " defer " is to put off the decision to me that says the other team can choose. Receive or kick simple as that and the team that doesn't get the pick can choose which side they want to play from.

So by deffering a team is saying they will decide what to do at the start of the second half. I wonder if any team has ever kicked instead of receiving to start the second half? With that said no team ever wood so it's simple. The team that receives in the first half kicks in the second half. Simple as that. It's stupid terminology really.

You win the toss and decide to kick off - that means you "defer" to receiving the 2nd half kickoff - done.

Over analytical minds need not apply here. Just make it and keep it simple.

You want to kick it or receive it?

You kick it now means you receive it later.
You receive it now means you kick it later.
Even a college educated professional football player should be able to retain those options.

I can't say for certain but in real bad weather games where you know it is going to be a turnover fest, it could make sense.
