When re-signing a player on his 5th year option, you go based on the salary of that 5th year option. It's a 1 year contract that they're operating on, not the tail end of a longer deal that has averaged out. I would assume FA would work the same way. @SirA1 what say you? It's basically a 1 year deal to encourage teams to resign a player to a long term deal. That is what the 40% should be based off of.
