What State or Country are you from?

I live in Rockville, M.D. a suburbs of Washington D.C.

1) How is the scenery?

It's nice here. We get all 4 seasons. I personally hate cold weather but this part of the East coast barely gets that much snow. Lots of hills and wooded areas. A lot of water around. The beach is about 2.5 hours away.

2) How is the culture?

It's ok. There's a lot of people who work for gov't and a lot of people like to talk about their jobs which is really annoying. It seems like a lot of people here try and 1up each other. My city has a very large Asian population. The schools around me for our kids are the best in the state.

3) Affordability?

Not very affordable. If I didn't buy when the boom stopped I couldn't even afford to live in my neighborhood. Old, small houses like mine(1700sf) go for 300k+. It's really ridiculous. I probably won't move for a long time. If I do move it will be out of this area because the housing is crazy expensive.

4) Things to do?

Sit in traffic??? obviously go check all the historical stuff. Monuments, white house, capitol, etc. There's more though besides that. There's so many bike paths here. I can get on the path near my house and take it all the way into DC.

5) Demographic

Chocolate city baby!!! It's a DC reference, but it's very diverse in this area. I met more nationalities here than I ever met when I grew up in AS. I'm married to an Armenian, I didn't even know where Armenia was before I met my friends and her.

2) How is the culture?

i think it's fine. people act like it's a ghetto area, but i dont really think it is. lotta ppl put on a front of trying to be intimidating, but once you're open they're all pretty cool. but a lotta crime, no doubt. lotta folks unemployed or working dead end jobs. if you're hanging out in town all day, you'll probably see at least some kinda crazy stuff that day lol. it's hard to explain, but i feel like even though there's a lotta trash individuals there's like a weird sense of camaraderie among the people.

3) Affordability?

I don't know. I think it's pretty standard. A lotta folks have numerous roommates. My family didn't, but if you go to a homies place you may see like 12 people in their house. People get by though. So with a decent job, I can't imagine it's expensive.

4) Things to do?

People just kinda hang out in town. you'll see gas stations and little restaurants crowded with ppl out front kinda just doing whatever. no loitering laws it seemed. growing up i spent most my time at the fields. this is actually the field where a young jfin could be found doing sports at a very low level of success

otherwise people just go to the next city over, Cocoa Beach. there's kinda something always going on over there. I spent most my free time over there growing up. I think it's a pretty well-known tourist city. There's always **** going on at the beach, if you're into that. Kennedy Space Center's right over there. There's some cool spots in the area.

5) Demographic

I'd guess 40/60 white/black. nothing else really. i think it's a pretty relatively young population of people.

I’m down in Palm Bay out in the woods with the 3rd world roads. Pretty nice when I don’t have loose pit bulls chasing me back into the house when I’m trying to leave for work

dog palm bay's like a whole other world from the rest of brevard i feel like. my uncle lives in that malabar area and there's like loose horses roaming the street, ****'s wild. houses all got like 5 acres of land. that's probably the best spot to live in the county. besides those b**** a** mail men that spend all their time talking to random people instead of doing their job.

Hawkeye State

1) How is the scenery?

Lots of this....

But it's not all corn fields either....

2) How is the culture?  Few breweries, wineries popping up. There's plenty to see and do. Just have to be willing to do some driving in most cases. Field of Dreams. Bridges of Madison County. Amish, Mennonites, and some Quakers. John Wayne. Dan Gable.

3) Affordability? Not entirely up to date on this, but pretty sure Iowa was 12 lowest in cost of living and 2nd lowest in housing recently.

4) Things to do? Arguably the best Whitetail deer hunting in the country. Every deer hunter wants an Iowa Giant. Bass, crappie, walleye, catfish all day.  RAGBRAI.  Maquoketa Caves, Mississippi and Mizzou Rivers.

5) Demographic - Mostly white, but like most places being more diverse every year.

Arizona

1) How is the scenery? - There is a bunch of cool looking stuff in AZ. But generally the scenery is desert, cactus, and mountains. Which is cool.

2) How is the culture? - Weird question. There is a large Hispanic culture here, especially where I live (Southern Arizona, about an hour away from Mexico). There is a lot of Native Americans too, so their culture and a bunch of casinos. Then the white peoples, do they have culture? They are a lot of vegans. But a lot of people hunt and go dirt biking and quading and people go chill at the river. Great nightlife if you go to Phoenix and the surrounding areas. People are generally nice and friendly.

3) Affordability? - Pretty affordable.

4) Things to do? - All the regular outdoor stuff (fishing, skiing, hiking, hunting, etc) except going to the beach because there is no beach. We have all the major professional sports teams so that if ya want to. I live in Tucson so college basketball is a big thing. Nightlife in the Phoenix area is great. There is a bunch of casinos. We have the internet so you can be a regular person and spend a bunch of time on the internet. People do rodeo stuff. Renaissance Festival is pretty popular.

5) Demographic - I'm just gonna guess. 55% white, 30% hispanic, 15% Native American+black+asian. I think we have the 3rd biggest population of Native Americans of the states, not sure if that is a more significant portion of the population than I gave it credit for. Old people like to come here, especially in the winter, so they are well represented.

i live in the blue mountains about an hour and twenty-hour in a half by train from sydney, so i'm in australia then

the scenery is amazing. literally live on a mountain! to go to the top of the mountains from the base in penrith it's about an hour by train, i live in the lower mid mountains so i'm only around thirty minutes up, but i still get awesome views. there are so many bike tracks and walking trails, most of which culminate in the most beautiful lookouts you will ever see - all of the ones the tourists see are pretty normie but the locals like moi know the niche lookouts that are the best ones

the culture is pretty variant based on where you are - hippy culture is probably the trend throughout that's the most consistent - not something i'm really in to - but up all the way in the upper mountains hippy culture kinda turns in to pothead hippy culture and i'm definitely not about that - athletic culture all the way in casa del shady slim, that's more my thing - but on the whole it's very local and homely - like you still say hello to people when u walk past them in the street and stuff - funnily enough where i live and the next suburb over apparently has some of the highest rates percapita of kiddy fiddlers in the state, makes sense because a lot of old white dudes come to retire here

nsw has a housing affordability crisis and it's bad here but not too bad, the closer you get to sydney the more obscene it gets. the mountains aren't bad but they're not super cheap either such is housing in australia - in terms of things to do the things are cheap though, i'm assuming it's like that in america too, like groceries and crap get more and more expensive the closer you move to the city

like i said before the lookouts and such are amazing, the mountains, most especially in the upper mountains, super touristy... a lot of tourists especially asian tourists come to see the three sisters and other touristy sites in katoomba like scenic world and stuff. it's far from like all the best unis and stuff so my commute is a bit of a pain but what can you do

the mountains are very very white, but like i said especially in the upper mountains there are so many asian tourists. i went to a very multicultural high school in penrith (not in the mountains), and i'm also at the most multicultural uni in australia, so i'm not one of the sheltered hicks but we have a fair few of that archetype here and in surrounding regions such as the hawkesbury and outer western sydney

while it is lovely here i wouldn't want to live here forever and want to move to sydney when i am earning the big bucks
