My Updated Projected 53-man roster.

OFFENSE

QB – 3

Deshone Kizer

Cody Kessler
Kevin Hogan

RB – 3
Isaiah Crowell,
Duke Johnson,
Matt Dayes

FB - 1
Danny Vitale

WR - 5
Corey Coleman,
Kenny Britt,

Ricardo Louis-
Rashard Higgins
Jordan Leslie - OR- Ranell Hall

TE – 3
David Njoku,
Seth DeValve,
Randall Telfer
- Telfer is the most underrated player on the team. One of the best in-line blockers in the entire league. Has down the field catch ability as well. A younger, more explosive and athletic Gary Barnidge. There was no reason to keep big play Gare with his declining movement skills. Looked like he was running in sand. Loved Gary as a person and Browns fighter. Salute to him.

LT – 2
Joe Thomas,

OL Roderick Johnson- I don't think he should make the 53 but it's looking like he will. Horrible contact balance and is always a waist bender. Would be better in a zone scheme under Kyle Shannahan. I don't think he has the body coordination or balance for the pros imo. Elite length. Where he was selected predicates that he probably makes the team

LG – 3
Joel Bitonio,
Marcus Martin

-Starter ability. Needs to improve. A new chance and Coach Wylie can help him improve.

Spencer Drango (Swing LT/G) - uncertainty with Bitonio means he makes the team

C – 2
J.C. Tretter,
Austin Reitter
.

RG – 2
Kevin Zeitler
John Greco

RT – 2
Shon Coleman
- Like Coleman a lot, but he stands on stilts with poor contact balance and uncoordinated movement skills. Strong/elite punch and it's over if he can get his hands on you.

Cameron Erving,- The all 22 from the Saints preseason game shows Ervings agility and sturdy anchor ableit there were 3 or 4 really bad moments that the common fan could point out, but they don't pay attention to the other plays.  No one really knows Cam's ability as they only have known him as a Browns center. In that way, he's not good, but his play at tackle at FSU made me have him as a top 3 tackle prospect heading into the draft. Coming out of FSU, Cam showed elite balance and kick step foot quickness as a tackle. Long arms and punch on the outside makes Cam a strong developmental starter at tackle.

******(26 Offensive players on 53)******

DEFENSE

RDE - 3
Myles Garrett,
Nate Orchard - Had a rough rookie year and was injured his second. Before injury, he was our best against the run. His skills are slept on. I still think he can be a special role player in the 43.

DE Tyrone Holmes,--Special burst and finishing ability. TFL specialist. Was not a 34OLB.

DT - 2
Larry Ogunjobi,
Trevon Coley

NT – 3
Danny Shelton,
Caleb Brantley,
- His skill set at Florida was the double arm press, hold the blocker, Find the ball, Throw the Blocker off...Strong qualities as a NT in 43. Can win with quickness and strength as a 3-tech as well.

Jamie Meder

LDE- 2
Emmanuel Ogbah,
Carl Nassib

WLB – 2
Christian Kirksey,
Dominique Alexander

MLB – 1
Joe Schobert - Perfect fit in the 43 sam role with Gregg Williams being able to call parellel twists/blitzes for Collins and Schobert.

When 2-deep is mostly all UFAs...you can hide them on PS and call them up as necessary a la Vikings, Eagles, etc

SLB - 2
Jamie Collins,
James Burgess
- Watch his tape as well. He's also a special developmental impact player with elite instincts and athleticism to avoid guards in order to make TFLs.

CB – 5 b/c 6th Howard Wilson won't count against the 53 b/c they'll start him out on PUP
Joe Haden,
Briean Boddy-Calhoun,
Jason McCourty
Jamar Taylor

Darius Hillary.
Howard Wilson --On PUP to start out season

FS – 2
Jabrill Peppers,

Kai Nacua

SS – 2
Derrick Kindred
Calvin Pryor

*********(24 Defensie Players on the 53)******

SPECIAL TEAMS - 3
P – 1
Britton Colquitt

K – 1
Zane Gonzalez

LS – 1
Charley Hughlett

PR/KR
Ricardo Louis // Jabrill Peppers

Practice Squad - 10. 11th player b/c not all will make it through waivers
OT Zach Sterup-Final practice Squad year. Might make it through to PS b/c of PED issue.

OT from another team

WR from another team

WR from another team

TE JP Holtz

CB Trey Caldwell/CB Channing Stribling,

CB Najee Murray,

CB from another Team
FS J.D. Harmon,

LB Ladell Fleming//LB Deon King - Watch the tape. He's a special, special player. Game is very much like a an instinctual Jamie Collins but with more length. He adds special edge rush ability as well. Ability jumps off the screen. It will be too risky to cut him for the practice squad. Will have standout moments in camp and be seen as a developmental starter if the mental aspect of the game is not too much. Don't know the player in terms of work ethic. If it's there, he won't just make the team but he'll be inserted into the lineup as an edge or inside rusher in some sub packages.

LB BJ Bello//Kenneth Olugbode

No way we're keeping 10 lineman

8 will be the number add a defensive end and a safety

Who says we're not, and Why wouldn't we?

It happens all the time, all around the league, but we're just not use to it in Cleveland.

Last year, 13 out of 32 teams kept 10 or 11 OL at the 53 cut down. And...15 kept 10 or more DLineman.

The goal is to keep the best talent on your team. We have the most talent at DL so that justifies that. Greg Williams teams stack heavy at Safety and DL and he often only carries 3 LBs. Tons of teams do this (Eagles and Schwartz for example).

In terms of OL, it's to our advantage given the uncertainty with Bitono. I was either going to cut Rod Johnson or Spencer Drango; thereby, freeing up another spot to be used for another Safety, but I think the staff wants to keep Rod Johnson. Eagles kept 11 OTs; Rams kept 10; and so on and so on.

WR, RB, and LB are position groups that teams usual add more to in lieu of OL and DL numbers. That won't be the case with this team as Williams doesn't keep many LBs, we don't have a clear talented RB4, and it's not worth keeping both Ranell Hall and Jordan Leslie as opposed to 1 of them and nate orchard/Spencer Drango.

I ultimately see us keeping 10 OL and 10 DL a la the Eagles/Rams/Jim Schwartz/Gregg Williams model.

I could be wrong, but I think it's the best way to maximize our roster talent and not cut talent for lesser talent depth at another positioin.

I don't know if you'll be proven right or wrong, but either way, this is a quality post.  One football for you.

If we are, in fact, going to be run heavy, we could see some jumbo formations (6th OL), which would also make it sensible to keep 10 OL''s.

I have us keeping 10 lineman on my projections also.....

the Dline is where a big chunk of our talent likes....'

I think there is going to be some cross training/cross positional backups....For instance, I see us only keeping 5 LB's on the roster (most teams carry 6-7, while 3-4 teams will carry 8-9 lb's)...but I think because of their experience and Athletic talent, Tyrone Holmes and Nate O' are going to be looked at as DE/OLB/DPR's with the "True DE's" being Ogbah, Nassib and M.L.G......I think were only going to keep 5 Wr's (unless we trade for one) as I think not Only Duke Johnson, but David Njoku will be used some in the slot and split out wide....

Lots of interesting things today.  I just read the Browns are trying hard to move Brock, Haden, and Erving.  Another, TJ Ward is being shopped!  We need to bring him home similar to how we got Collins, then resign him right now!

My thoughts, Erving has looked like a bust across the board on the OLine.  No one will give us anything, he will be cut.  Brock apparently is very broken by Bill O Brian.  I don't think anyone will give up anything for him.  He stays on as a backup and tries to fix his issues.  Haden, I hope no one trades for him.  I like Haden and want to see a big time bounce back year from him and would love to see him play well for us for many more years and retire as a Brown.

TJ Ward, Haden was at his very best when he has Ward enforcing the field in the secondary, bring him home now!

Thanks, @ReggieCamp!

Yep, it will be interesting to see how this thing plays out for sure.....

I don't care if he is 30, if I can get ward for a late 3rd similarly to how we got Collins, and we think we can resign him, then I do it!  This team needs some wins this year and Ward could absolutely help in that area.  We are very thin when it comes to veteran leadership.  He would help out there big time.  He has a ring, he has been a part of a great defense, he has stayed mostly healthy in the NFL, and he has been a big time producer... not to mention he should still be a Brown in the first place if not for idiotic prior management.

I don't think we need Ward with Kindred, he will do enough.

Also I like Kai, and Reynolds

If Peppers is at FS, then I am happy with either Kindred or Reynolds at SS.

I love having a good FS, I hated it when we lost Gipson, though he hasn't done anything and might get the axe in Jacksonville.
