Veteran cuts and the 53 man roster.

CB depth is a concern as Jason Mccourty according to the analytics (I didn't watch him play last year but the Titans fans were down on his play as well) was even worse than a two torn groin Joe Haden last year and substantially worse according to the numbers (53.4 vs 42.5-pass defense efficiency)...

Jamar Taylor was not the failure he was in Miami, but he got beat often and made mental mistakes in the redzone.

BBC played with grit as a rookie, but got exposed at times in big moments

Trey Caldwell and Najee Murray  are undersized slot/nickel CBs while Darius Hillary and Marcus Burley have yet to do much.

It was uncertain how Joe would play or if he would be injured, but a healthy Joe would've competed and had upside big play potential...

It is unlikely that a good corner/starter will fall off a roster at the 53 cut. I looked at all the CB rooms around the league....we mostly have what we have at this point as it would be hard to get a player up to speed and the veteran castoff won't be much in terms of big play impact...

We have an improved pass rush to help out, but things could get really rough against Pittsburgh and the Bengals....

Someone has to step up

That ronald darby trade looks amazing now...

I am still making up the list.....but here is my current 50....if it was me...there would be 3 spots up for grabs this weekend (among players on our roster and players on other folks rosters....remember we found BBC and Tyrone Holmes last year after cuts....and these are two kids that are playing like draft picks.....especially BBC.

QB: Kizer/Kessler (we get a 3rd day pick for Osweiler and eating 65% of this years salary)

RB: Crow/Duke/Days

FB: D.V.

WR: Britt/Coleman/Louis/Higgins/Peyton (Duke and Njoku will play slot and out wide)

TE: Telfare/DeVale/Njoku

OT :Joe Thomas/Johnson

OG : Bintonio/Drango

C : Tretter/Ruiter

OG: Zeitler/Greco

RT: Coleman/Johnson

DE: Ogbah/Nassib

DT : Shelton/Brantly

DT : Coley/Ogunjobi/Cooper

DE: Garret/Orchard/Holmes (OLB, DPR, DE, ST)

OLB : Collins/Burgess

MLB : Joe’Scho/Alexander

OLB : Kirksey

CB : Taylor/Stribbling/Caldwell

CB : BBC/Mccourty/Wilson(pup)

FS : Peppers/Nicua

SS : Kindred/Pryor

K: Gonzales

P: Colquit

LS: Hughlett

I wanted to keep Erving, but I gotta face facts...maybe he never pans out.....I do like this Kitt Obrien, Fabiano and Martin....maybe we keep one of them. The rest is looking at our CB's and seeing who will step up....or get cut...

What do we think about a Sheldon Richardson trade? Obviously, he'd play 3 tech. He'd provide an interior pass rush we haven't shown from the kids just yet. If it was a 7th for him and his whole 7 mill this season, who would wanna take that flier? I know dude's got uber issues, but...

I probably wouldn't.

He's got the talent but at this point they seem to have a pretty good lockeroom and no real troublemakers, I don't know if I'd bring in a potential malcontent when we've got a pair of talented rookies at his position.

Players on the roster bubble I'd like to see the Browns pick up:

1. Kyle Fuller CB, Bears (starter upside, cheap, big corner, instincts, injury issues have hurt him)

2. Brice Butler WR, Cowboys (Big target, good routes, concentration and focus issues, the most unlikely to be cut however the boys are trying to trade him)

3. Cody Latimer WR, Broncos (big target, explosive on the boundary in vertical routes)

4. Stephon Anthony LB, Saints (strong rookie year, too many mental mistakes, starter upside, cheap)

5. Damore'ea Stringfellow WR, Dolphins (big target, big play ability, starter upsdie)

6. DJ Fluker, OG/OT Chargers (Run blocking and power game specialist, poor in pass protection thus far, some RT/RG swing flexibility)

7. Senquez Golson, CB Steelers (tremendous competitor, ball skills, 10-INTs at ole miss in one season, small, has not played a snap in regular season since being drafted in 2015, crazy injury prone, big upside if healthy)

Players on the roster bubble I don't want to see on Browns but could see the FO picking up

1. Jarius Wright, WR Vikings (Hue connection; JAG)

2. Sammie Coats, WR Steelers (sir drops a lot with the speed to take the top off)

3. Troy Hill, CB Rams (Gregg Williams connection, JAG)

4. Cody Davis, S Rams (Gregg Williams connection, JAG)

At this point, a solid veteran number 3/4 player for depth and/or a young underachieving player with some tools/traits as maybe at best a number 2 with developmental starter upside re all that is available at every position....

Few exceptions are vet players with huge contacts that get released b/c their play doesn't meet their contractual price point (e.g., Joe Haden)

That's why largely what we have at this point...is what we have; however, now is the time to build for depth in the event of an injury..

No player acquired from this point on is likely to move the scale,....

Sashi and co. had a great offseason; however we should've done more at WR and CB given Joe Haden's contract was a discussed issue in the offseason given the level of thinking and analysis these guys tend to do.

Maybe they thought Howard Wilson could play this year, but that's asking a lot out of a mid round rookie..

This would be simply amazing if they cut him, and us sitting pretty with first waver priority!  He and Peppers would be an amazing combo at safety!  Then there could be sets where one is moved to LB, or corner, and Pryor could sub in.  It would be a great get.

The only sad part, Ward and Haden were our dynamic duo in the secondary back in the day, sadly they can never be reunited (unless the very worst happens and Ward somehow lands on the Steelers).
