Detroit General Manager Brad Holmes says a report that the Lions reached out to the 49ers about a potential trade for quarterback Trey Lance is incorrect.

Holmes told reporters today that the Lions never reached out or communicated with the 49ers about a Lance trade. A report last week from TheAthletic.com said they did.

The Lions schedule is unusual in that they have three Thursday night games this season. The first one this Thursday to start the league season off against the Chiefs, and then two more- both against the Packers- one being their traditional Thanksgiving Day game.

The Lions have a couple early challenges against the Chiefs and Seahawks, but then have perhaps the easiest stretch of their schedule between Week 3 and 6, facing the Falcons, Panthers, and Bucs during that stretch. The Lions will be without first-round draft pick WR Jameson Williams for the first six games of the season due to his suspension for violation of the league gambling policy.

They have a mid-season bye week with a couple tough games near either side of it with road games against the Ravens and Chargers, before finishing with the toughest part of their schedule beginning Week 13. Four of their last six games are on the road, and most will likely be against teams in position to make the playoffs or improve their playoff standing, including two games against the Vikings over the last three weeks of the season. It will be interesting to see if the Week 18 matchup in Detroit is for the division crown or not.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff is closing in on the NFL record for most consecutive passes thrown without an interception.

Goff’s last interception came against the Packers in Week Nine of last season. He ended last season having thrown 324 passes since that interception against the Packers, and he threw 35 more passes without an interception in Thursday night’s win over the Chiefs. That gives him 359 consecutive passes without an interception, the third-most in NFL history.

The all-time record belongs to Aaron Rodgers, who threw 402 passes without an interception in 2018. The second-most consecutive passes without an interception is 399 by Tom Brady in 2022. Brady also threw 358 passes without an interception from 2010 to 2011, which was the third-most of all-time before Goff surpassed him on Thursday night.

That's a very impressive stat. It's crazy to think that record could end up being owed by Goff. It's a testament to his growth, but also could be seen as a product of his limitations (not taking chances, not being able to push the ball downfield consistenly).

Goff is a good QB. I still think the Rams won that trade by virtue of their SB win with Stafford, but maybe the Lions see their impact in the long haul with the draft capital and an improved Jared Goff.

Goff & Ben Johnsons hardwork is a bigger indicator to the lions success than all the first rounders they got in the Matt Stafford trade.

Props to the Lions - They're a good football team

This is a significant blow to the Lions defense. Not only was CJGJ one of their better players, but he was a lightning rod. He brings an energy level that’s tough to replace.

I wanted him so badly, but it didn't really make sense with Harrison Smith being brought back.

Hindsight is 20/20, but would you choose CGJ over Harrison Smith if you had the chance?

No.  Harry is still a better player at 34 than Johnson is at 25.  Obviously, Johnson is going to be around longer, but I wouldn't prioritize that.  There's ultimately a reason why he's on his 3rd team in 3 years.
