I hate this "Lamar betting on himself" sentiment.

he's already proven everything you can prove. This isn't Joe Flacco asking for $100M, us going "lol" and him betting on himself. This is the face of your franchise, a once-in-a-generation player who won unanimous MVP and your entire offense/franchise is based around.

We're low-balling him, clearly. It's just ridiculous that we couldn't get this done.

This franchise has no problem paying its top players. I think it’s just a case of them not wanting to acknowledge Watsons contract. Mahomes and Allen both around 45 mil and they’re better than Jackson.

Kyler Murray and Russell Wilson should've made it very clear. So either Lamar is being completely unreasonable in wanting a fully GTD contract or we continued to low-ball him by not even offering him more than Russ.

The rumors are saying we offered more than Kyler but he wants fully guaranteed. We might not ever know the truth but I don’t think we offered less than Kyler/Russ

If he really wants fully guaranteed (or close to it) there is almost no incentive for the Ravens to do it vs franchising tagging him the next 2-3 years. I can't imagine its not being able to come together on +/- a few million per year. Lamar not having an agent makes things so challenging. I don't blame him personally for sticking to his guns for what he believes in but it ultimately puts the team in a pretty challenging situation.

I'm not seeing the challenging situation. He's playing this year and we can easily exclusively tag him twice. Then after that... well another team still has to outbid us.

Look at this: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/yearly/cap/

Who is the next player we are afraid of losing because Lamar has a high cap hit?

If Bateman and Owen both hit their ceiling maybe we have something to worry about in 2025.

It's not like EDC hasn't built a good team but I can't help but feel a bit of frustration watching the Bills and just sort of contrasting the really deliberate and aggressive steps they've taken to build, brick-by-brick, an unmistakable Super Bowl favorite around Josh Allen and compare that to the sort of conservative, middle ground approach we've taken over the past couple of years. You look at some of the moves they've made and it really puts in perspective the fact that we spent a whole offseason hyping up hiring Keith Williams working to improve the footwork of our WR's as a possible gamechanger.  And look - there's obviously some luck involved in what worked and what didn't work, and some of the differences also just come down to Josh Allen's really incredible development as a quarterback -- but I don't think it's unreasonable to think we've shown less urgency than some of our peers.

Especially given that there's a non-zero chance Lamar just ups and leaves in 1-2 years... it's going to bring into focus more the fact that there were all-in moves to make and we never really took a risk on any of them. That sort of self-sustaining, long-term outlook perfectly defensible route to take but I think we've sort of underrated the very real possibility that we took our Super Bowl window for granted and let it slip by in the interest of making a bunch of high floor, lower ceiling B+ moves.

Like what? Adding Nuk, Diggs, AB, etc?  None of those players change the trajectory of our teams during the Lamar era to this point. 18', Lamar was a Rookie and our entire offense got overwhelmed against the Chargers. 19', The team collapsed with execution and coaching being the major villains. 20', The injury dominoes started falling with Stanley and Boyle(key offensive components) being lost, Lamar wasn't as good as the year before, the OL was underserved, and again we got overwhelmed with offensive play calling being a major issue. 21', we were one of the most injured teams in league history....

If anything it's easy to see how adding one of these f'n malcontent WR1s would've been an ultimately harmful move. When you factor in cost, contract, and then the problems they inevitably bring. I mean, Lamar's best friend didn't want to play WR for this club and asked to be traded.

Juicing more talent to the OL post 2019 and demoting Roman back to run game specialist would've boosted our chances more than anything.

I guess I don't get what this superior "brick by brick" approach by the Bills that you're referring to is? The only positional groups where they clearly pace us are at WR, LB, atp QB, and maybe EDGE until Ojabo and Bowser return.

If he wants guaranteed money, it's not happening. Not in a million years. So if that's his sticking point? We all need to get used of the idea of Lamar playing for a different team. (If any other team will even offer that to him).

I'll never count another man's money and he's definitely worth more than Watson. I just think there needs to be a meet in the middle price. I don't blame Lamar for wanting to maximize his earnings. Simply business.
