I've got it at $9M after Year 3, in terms of the pro-rated bonus money (or dead cap.).

$3M per year from signing bonus ($15M prorated over 5 years) = $6M after Year 3

$1.5M per year (from year two on) from $6M roster bonus in 2020 ($6M prorated over 4 years) = $3M after Year 3

Most of the guaranteed money in the deal -- aside from the $15M signing bonus -- is probably fully guaranteed salaries (or portions of salaries) in the first 3 years.

The interesting thing is the roster bonus is for 2024. Per OTC

The contact includes an option bonus for 2024, which is due between the 1st and 5th day of the 2020 league year and is worth $6 million.  If the team does not exercise it, Collins will earn a $6 million non-exercise fee.

If I'm reading that right, they can either choose in 2020 (year two) to have the sixth year (2024) kick in and raise his cap for years 2-5 by $1.2M guaranteed or they can decline it and pay him $6M in 2020 and then just have the remainder of his signing bonus monies to contend with (plus his 2021 salary which is currently injury guaranteed). He's getting the $6M either way, it just a matter of how they account for it.

That would mean (I will assume the de-escalators don't come into play for this; I'm also leaving out the possibilities of "June cuts"):

  • If they pay the option
    • Contract extends to 2024
      • 2020
        • Cap number = $14.2M
        • Guaranteed in 2020 = $14.2M
        • Dead cap if cut = $28.0M
        • Cap change = ($13.8M)
      • 2021
        • Cap number = $17.2M
        • Guaranteed in 2021
          • Before 5th day of 2021 league year = $4.2M
          • After 5th day of 2021 league year = $16.7M
        • Dead cap if cut
          • Before 5th day of 2021 league year = $13.8M
          • After 5th day of 2021 league year = $26.3M
        • Cap  change
          • Before 5th day of 2021 league year = $3.4M
          • After 5th day of 2021 league year = ($9.1M)
      • 2022
        • Cap number = $16.2M
        • Guaranteed in 2022 = $4.2M
        • Dead cap if cut = $9.6M
        • Cap change = $6.6M
      • 2023
        • Cap number = $17.2M
        • Guaranteed in 2023 = $4.2M
        • Dead cap if cut = $5.4M
        • Cap change = $11.8
      • 2024
        • Cap number = $15.2M
        • Guaranteed in 2024 = $1.2M
        • Dead cap if cut = $1.2M
        • Cap change = $14.0M
  • If they don't pay the option
    • 2024 year voids
      • 2020
        • Cap number = $19.0M
        • Guaranteed in 2020 = $19.0M
        • Dead cap if cut = $28.0M
        • Cap change = -$9.0M
      • 2021
        • Cap number = $16.0M
        • Guaranteed in 2021
          • Before 5th day of 2021 league year = $3.0M
          • After 5th day of 2021 league year = $15.5M
        • Dead cap if cut
          • Before 5th day of 2021 league year = $9.0M
          • After 5th day of 2021 league year = $21.5M
        • Cap change
          • Before 5th day of 2021 league year = $7.0M
          • After 5th day of 2021 league year = ($5.5M)
      • 2022
        • Cap number = $15.0M
        • Guaranteed in 2022 = $3.0M
        • Dead cap if cut = $6.0M
        • Cap change = $9.0M
      • 2023
        • Cap number = $16.0M
        • Guaranteed in 2023 = $3.0M
        • Dead cap if cut = $3.0M
        • Cap change = $13.0M

Of course, those "After 5th day of the 2021 league year" entries are due to it be guaranteed for injury only. Should Collins become injured, they guarantee a la Smith.

So, if they wanted to, they could cut a year off the contract and treat it as a two year, $23M fully guaranteed contract, with three option years. Honestly, I would decline the option if they have the room for the extra $4.8M in cap space.

In summary, Woz:
Yesterday = ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
Today = ┬─┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

Could you please do that summary via gif, preferably with a pokemon? I don't know what those lines mean. @Woz

Ugh, I'm out of likes.  Thumbs up!

The TL;DR version:

Washington can turn it into a 2y, $23M fully guaranteed contract (if they're willing to have Collins have a $19M cap hit in 2020) with three team option years on the back-end.

Still not totally thrilled with going all in on an in-the-box safety as "the one big spend" target, but it's not the full on rage that was yesterday.

It seems like they got a good deal on him. I know that’s not what you wanted to do Woz but at least they put together a good contract.

And I will concede this. It's why I have mellowed on the move.

My problem with this signing (beyond the aforementioned ludicrous idea that we are "close") is that Collins is a very good, in the box safety that requires good scheming and a disciplined team in order to not get exposed.

And I dont think we have that.

I’m excited too see Collins!!! Like money aside I don’t ever find many names I actually want to sign for our team. This is the first year in a long time so I’m excited as I felt back then he should have been a redskin. Me and Turtle were very outspoken towards drafting Collins and him being good!!!! I’m excited to see his number around 2
