Just watched Sternberger for the first time right now.

I wish I had earlier.

I think I would have had him above everyone except Fant.

Guy is ridiculously fluid out there despite his numbers. Catches the ball as an act of continuing down field (i.e. doesn't lose speed or steps when he plucks). LOVE that look in a TE.

He falls smoothly. I actually key on that. Shows body control and, hopefully, injury prevention w/ good body awareness.

Great feet, too. He get any Zach Ertz comps? Frickin perfect seam guy for Rodgers...

Nice youtube highlight take B|

This pick is for 2020.  If he has more than 40 receptions in his rookie year, he's literally going to be an all-pro throughout his career.

Opinions of him not being fast enough... What's the opinion on his brain?  Because, with Rodgers, intelligence goes further than athleticism, and maybe that's why we picked him.

I definitely saw this pick coming looking at the board. It is l nice to see a TE with ballskills on the team.

I will say his measurables scare me a bit. He doesn’t have the most upside.

Faster than Zach Ertz.

From my TMI mock:

Quote

When people knock Sternberger for his perceived lack of athleticism I think they’re really missing the point of what makes him such a threat. Sternberger is very SMOOTH, and that’s why (at least to me) he appears to play at least a full step faster than he timed. Before the catch—JS’s movement skills are reminiscent of Zach Ertz (a Top 3 TE in the NFL who ran a 4.76)—the way he flows seamlessly through his routes. The overall comparison to Ertz doesn’t work because of what he offers after the catch. JS is not only a crafty route runner, but he uses those smooth, purposeful movements to make players miss and isn’t afraid to run through a defender if they hesitate.
