I do not get all the Ameer Abdullah hate, the guy has over 3300 yards kick returning and punt returning when you combine college and pro statistics.  No one on the roster comes even close to that.  Maybe he lost something when he got injured as a Lion rookie after that first year and he had over 1000 yards as a kick returner in one year.  But I feel he has the hands and has the instincts for the position, something no one else on the team has really.  Sure Mike Boone did it ok in college SOPH and JR year but most of that was he is a big dude and people do not like tackling bigger kick returners especially in college.  Yes he could do that but no way he has the hands for the punt return game, and Bisi could maybe handle punts but has not done it very long or has been that productive as a return man compared to Ameer.

Maybe Ameer's tread is all gone, he had a big work load in college but the guy had back to back 1600 yard rush seasons with 230+ receiving yards both those years as well, not to mention the return stuff also.  He has ability and as a third down back can catch the football well.  So enough hating on the guy.

i get keeping six DTs, joseph is the only obvious full-time player, and even he's slowing down the last couple years. all the other guys (at this point) are good in certain areas but weak in others, so i foresee a lot of substituting to keep guys fresh and play them when their strengths will be on display.

if push comes to shove though, hercules is probably the most situational DT and can only play obvious passing downs so i could see the vikings risking him clearing waivers. that said, i'd rather cut an offensive lineman. dozier or samia, though i would definitely prefer they cut dozier.

No way you cut Hercules, no way.  Dillion is good but he is not that good, same with Watt.  Dozier and Samia they cannot risk cutting them based on their crap OL play of past years.

Because kickoff returner is not an important position in today's NFL, and Abdullah's ball security throughout his career has been suspect at best (guy dropped a ball on a running play without being touched).  He and Boone have the same role on this team, and we don't need two of them.  Abdullah is the easy cut since Boone also plays on specialist coverage units. Abdullah has NEVER had an NFL punt return in the regular season, and only did so in college up through his sophomore year.  He's the definition of JAG, and another guy sticking around because of his draft equity.

I do not get all the Ameer Abdullah hate,

I haven't seen Ameer Abdullah hate. Most people just don't see his role on the team as being all that important. As far as #4 RBs go he seems to be a fine #4 RB. Personally, I just don't see the need to carry a 4th RB. When RBs get hurt there always seem to be options available. Did you see the Rams pull a guy off the street last year when Gurley got hurt and have him put up numbers that were just fine. Maybe not as good the numbers a healthy Gurley would have gotten, but then again no #4 RB would put up numbers as good as a healthy Gurley would put up.

As far as what Abdullah did in college, that hardly matters in the pros. That has a lot to do with where a guy is drafted. Where a guy is drafted relates to how many opportunities a team might give a guy before giving up on him. Other than that, it has nothing to do with their value in the NFL. Abdullah was already cut by the team that drafted him. His value in the NFL right now is unrelated to his college production.

I would say that is true of most professions too. Doing good in college will help you get the first job but beyond that all that matters is work experience and how you are doing on the job. I have not bragged about how I did in my entry level religion class or brought up my GPA that was falsely high after being puffed up by cream puff classes when I have interviewed for jobs. Indeed, if a candidate that I was interviewing that had multiple years of previous experience in the field started answering the interview questions largely based on some classes he did well on in school he would not get the job. I would try to steer the candidate back to answers based on work experience a time or two maybe but that is it.

It matters less and less what you did in school once you have been in an industry for much time. That is the same for football players. This is why Tim Tebow didn't last in the NFL.

Doctson and Kirk Cousins hooked up for 37 catches for 568 yards and six touchdowns over 18 games together in Washington. Doctson had 44 catches for 532 yards and two touchdowns while playing without Cousins last year.

I'll take 550 and 4+ all day from our #3.

For comparison, after Diggs/Thielen, the next WR yardage wise was Treadwell with 302 yards (but 1 TD) and Robinson was 3rd with 5 TD's but only 231 yards.

If Doctson can combine 2018 Treadwell and Robinson (about 533 yards and 6 TDs), it's a win.

I have very little doubt they will be putting our 1st round CB coming off a bad knee injury, back returning kicks again for at least this year.

I don't think its necessarily a good decision either, but I could see it happening.

Ideally he doesn't though and can develop into a starting CB.

Fantastic!  Doctson is the WR I wanted when The Vikings just missed him by one pick, and had to settle for Treadwell.  Doctson was a disappointment in Washington, but a lot of that was due to circumstances out of his control, like a severe injury, and a QB running for his life on almost every play.  He looks like he has better tools than Treadwell, more speed, ability to run patterns better, and to break away/separate from the defenders a LOT better.  He can play wide, and Thielen can move to the slot some.  Most importantly, he has the experience to be counted upon to replace Thielen or Diggs if one or the other gets banged up for a few games.  Whereas, Treadwell and all the other young receivers would be question marks if depended on to take over that role.  Washington decided to go with youth, and The Vikings needed experience.  Great pick-up.  Now, if the OL and the entire defence can gell together as cohesive units, and play well consistently, we'll have a very fun season.

Figuring he joins the team today after his physical, that gives him 4 days of practice......

Normally I'd think he won't play much Sunday but I'm sure he already has the playbook and has worked with Kirk before, so what are the chances he gets 20 snaps or more Sunday?

20 is probably pushing it. I’d say probably around 12. Honestly, if he plays 20 that would end up being a good sign for him tho.
