Week 5 GDT - Cleveland Browns at San Francisco 49ers

J-ALL-DAY

Also here is something I just thought about: Odell was cramping up a lot in the new York game for them. I believe he had to get an IV to get hydrated.

I suspect (without evidence) that he was a little hungover that day, being that he was back in a place where I'm sure he likes to party. Remember, this is the guy that flew to Miami to go hang out on a yacht before a playoff game. We have seen him do cocaine (video posted where he was clearly intoxicated and the substance was easily seen), and I know someone who played football with him at LSU who told me that he used to do other 'things' all the time outside of your typical recreationals.

Odell will be in California where he obviously has a lot of friends. I know we aren't LA (thank god) but its not hard to imagine a scenario where he is less than 100% this game. Shame its a night game on Monday and not an early morning sunday game. this might just be some bye week over analyzation going on (is it gameday yet???) but idk. felt worth mentioning.

Also, if I see Goodwin dancing with Odell during pregame warmups like he did last year I am going to lose it. Goodwin hasn't been the same guy since he got paid.

I'm not saying that you're wrong on any of this...but if OBJ has an identical game to the one that he had in NY...I'll be pretty happy.

David Wells threw a perfect game while drunk, OBJ can overcome whatever obstacles he puts in his own way. Not saying he will or has, I don't know what is true but even if he parties hard the day of the game he is still one of the most gifted out there.

Some fun nuggets from an athletic article:

No quarterback in the NFL has been blitzed more than Jimmy G. He's been blitzed on almost 49% of his drop backs. Next highest is Carolina and Buffalo (Cam was 45%, Kyle allen only 39%, Josh allen is at 41.5% for Buffalo).

Jimmy is 9th in the league in net yards when blitzed.

Cleveland blitzes the 10th most in the league, and is one of the more successful, allowing the 9th fewest net yards per play when blitzing. We are second to last in blitz percentage, and are middle of the road when it comes to being successful at it (17th). We do however create the third most pressure in the NFL without blitzing (create pressure on 24.5% of drop backs when not blitzing).

That right there is one of the biggest keys to our success thus far. Perhaps the most important, even.

Honestly, the Steelers had a really solid defensive game plan against us. Loading up the box and blitzing as much as they did took away a lot of the play actions. But obviously we still had no problem moving the ball at will, but still thought they prepared well. If Jimmy G wasn't on his game, then it could have been a very rough game and result.

Not needing to blitz to bring pressure is a good sight to see. It is the Fangio defenses all over again.

I’m just really happy to have Higgins back. He’s always been Bakers go-to-guy. Especially on 3rd and long.

We thought we might be getting our 3rd down specialist back this week, Trent Taylor. He is basically a Wes welker clone and has amazing chemistry with Garoppolo.

I haven't heard anything about him playing so I assume he's still out.

This game should be fun! Lots of splash plays for both sides

Also, listened to the ringer podcast yesterday, and they did a minor preview of this game and they brought up something I found to be interesting and hadn't really considered. Basically, Robert Mays said that Shanny runs so many of those pitch plays that we so adore as a counter measure to teams cheating against the outside zone running plays like they have begun to do with the Rams. He's got a point, and I Hadn't really considered it before. The pitches keep them honest to the outside to allow those gaps on the interior to stay open

Remember how Brian Hoyer gave the rams offensive scheme to BB before the superbowl? (despite not ever playing for mcvay btw, proving that mcvay is a fraud and a cheat who stole the offense) well one of the main things I remember hearing was about how this offense doesn't have 'an answer' for an all out blitz. The famous play was when the pats blized the rams and soft goff got scared and chucked the ball up for grabs and Gilmore had the easiest interception of his life.

So its not surprising to me to hear that in the media, then have teams try and blitz us more. I am fine with it because Jimmy is not afraid to stand in the pocket and deliver the ball when he knows hes about to get hit. That quick release helps with this as well. The guy has balls of steel.

Wait, Antonio Callaway is 240 lbs? Am I hearing this correctly?

according to @Thomas5737. But I think he just means hes guaranteed to be overweight and out of shape and that they shouldn't expect much from him. The guy was a first round talent they got super late for a reason.

Ohh ok. If he came in at 240 this week, I would think that would nearly be the end of him this season.
