Makes sense, we didn’t really sign anybody, we traded for Jeudy. Expect 2 7th rounders next year. If this happens, we’d have

 

1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7
 

The Cleveland Browns are set to see two more late-round picks added to their tally in the 2025 NFL draft after the departure of two free agents. Losing tight end Harrison Bryant and linebacker Sione Takitaki to the Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots respectively, the Browns are slated to receive an additional seventh round pick for each.

While this information is unofficial, the compensatory pick formula has been cracked by Over the Cap, and this information is as close to gold as it gets without being verified and released by the NFL.

Except there is a maximum of 32 compensatory picks, giving the draft a total of 256 picks.

Those picks are distributed to the higher rounds first. If all 32 picks have been assigned and you are still waiting on a 7th rd pick - you're SOL.

Getting compensation for losing those two seems like a cheat code lol.

I like Takitaki and Bryant was whatever, but neither seem like the kind of players you’d need compensation for losing.

Agree LGB.

I like Taki as well. I think he grew into a serviceable run stopping specialist who could make a few plays in the passing game as well. Probably why the Patriots signed him. Good dude who works hard and respects the game, but hardly a franchise cornerstone. He is the kind of role player that every franchise needs to be successful.

Bryant, on the other hand, had a decent rookie season, but then seemed to experience career stagnation.

Wish them both well.

I think the whole comp pick thing is silly. Mostly it rewards good teams with excessive talent to have their backups go somewhere and get overpaid because of where they come from.

I think there should be cap relief for resigning your own draft picks. It could count at a lower percentage than free agent signings. Allow teams to retain their own guys by making their cap hit lower thus making it harder for other teams to meet that price. It would also increase the times players play their whole career for one team which is often good for the fans. Then just make the draft 8 rounds.

Now that the draft has come and gone - the team can take care of a necessary organizational issue.

Ultimately, the buck stops with the Haslams for the upper management levels of the organization. I am not privy to who reports to who - but the pregnant task that needs addressed is:

Extend both GM Andrew Berry and HC Kevin Stefanski.

In today's NFL, the most successful franchises are the ones that are not afraid to spend money, and also where the head coach and general manager work very well together.

Is Stefanski perfect? Hell no - not even close. I am sure, behind closed doors, he and Berry have had some really "spirited discussions" in different directions regarding either current players or prospects. At the end of the day, they reach common ground and move on.

I saw real growth as a HC last year. I still don't like the fact that KS is the primary play caller. I never will. I feel the head coach needs to be involved in so many other areas on game days, that duty should be delegated. The most impressive feat I saw last season was how he pushed all the right buttons to plug replacement guys in place and keep the team playing hard through the unprecedented amount of semi-catastrophic injuries.

That's why he now has hardware for Coach of the Year twice in just 4 seasons.

Andrew is a wizard at the business side of the game. He manages the salary cap wonderfully - with a lot of help from Jimmy's checkbook. He and Kevin have a bevy of talent underneath them that they manage to identify and procure the talent they want to see wearing the brown and orange.

Thank God we have moved beyond the hiring and firing coaches and executives every other season cycle. Don't shoot the messenger here, but that is the biggest thing I can respect about our rivals 130 miles to the southeast of us.

Head coaches Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher, and Mike Tomlin. THAT'S IT. Since NINETEEN FREAKING SIXTY NINE!!! 50 years and counting. When you make a commitment to a coach like that - the same system gets taught to the players year after year until it is second nature.

I have a growing confidence that we have finally landed the people here in Cleveland that can make that track record of success a reality. Finally.

Jimmy finally learned to hire the right people, then get the hell out of the way and let them do their jobs. Just sign those contracts now to allow that to continue.

I’m quietly hoping the same, I’m a diehard Schwartz guy but I hope he’s not a one trick pony.

First of all, this was a very uplifting post, and secondly I really feel like Jimmy got it right with this group. We can nitpick about certain things but one thing we don’t have to worry about are gaping holes in the roster and having a team prepared to win a game every week.

Isn’t it nice to not have to be reliant on a 5th round pick to have to come in and start, or drafting Mohammed massaquoi and Brian robiskie to be your 1&2 WR, or trade the 5th pick for a swap of firsts a 2nd and Abe Elam Kenyon Coleman and Brett ratlif

If the biggest gripe we have is who is going to be TE3 on this roster....life is in a good spot.

QB1 is still the biggest issue, question mark, and what everything hinges on.

Watson is 4 years removed from playing his best football and has played 66 games in 7 seasons, playing 7 games or fewer in 4 of those seasons. He’s played 12 games the last 3 seasons.

That is cause for massive concern on top of everything else.

100%.

This team’s ceiling is entirely dependent on the sex pest and how well he plays.

If he can stay healthy and play at/near what he’s shown for most of his career, we’re gonna be a tough, tough team.

If not we’re gonna look a lot like last season.
