Apparently, Marner wants the same. Going to be some interesting decisions in Toronto

This could get very tricky very fast. A window as now been established so they gotta be very smart and calculated from here on out. Hopefully the Nylander deal didn’t mess things up too badly.

The good thing is, either Nylander or Marner (particularly the latter) would command a ransom in trade that could set the team up unbelievably well long term if they are wise with their draft selections and players they are getting back. They could really set themselves up well for long term success with really high priced top end guys like JT and Matthews, and then highly productive ELC guys.

That’s a good way to look at it. Will be very interesting to see what plays out with this team the next year or two especially on the Mariner front.

Bargin

I’m curious how you believe this is a bargain?

His contract is 14.63% of the cap.

Matthews gave up a bit of salary but becomes a free agent at 26.

The contract is over 90% signing bonus which means that money is protected from work stoppage or buyout.

The Leafs are leading the league in money for their tip 2 centres.

For a 5 year deal the contract looks about right.

Nice trade for the Devils, they get a 2nd rounder in 19 for Brian Boyle.  I certainly like that return if I'm the Flyers looking to trade Simmonds.

Let the firesale begin!

Okay, not really a firesale. Boyle and MarJo are likely the only ones who can be traded. But still, glad to see the Devils get a nice return like that on Boyle.
