NeptunePenguins
Not sure where to put this so I will leave it here. I'm wondering how people on here would categorize the arm strength of various Hall of Fame QBs, and other known QBs over the year. Perhaps make a tier list or something. I will go ahead and put a bunch of names to start. Assume all are in their primes, arm strength wise at least. Tom Brady Joe Montana Peyton Manning Aaron Rodgers Drew Brees Brett Favre John Elway Dan Marino Steve Young Deshaun Watson Patrick Mahomes Josh Allen Troy Aikman Andrew Luck Chad Pennington Jamarcus Russell Tim Tebow Kyle Boller Cam Newton Jeff George Michael Vick Jim Kelly Rich Gannon Kurt Warner Tony Romo Terry Bradshaw Joe Namath Ben Roethlisberger Philip Rivers Roger Staubach Joe Theismann Ken Stabler Add more if ya want, or just talk about the ones you know. I didn't see a lot of the older players so it would he curious to see what people think since a few players have been ranked all over the place arm strength wise. So yeah. Hunter2_1
I'll madden rate the ones i've seen, but I'm no expert Tom Brady - 84 Joe Montana -85 Peyton Manning - 86 (peak...final season of Den would have been like 60) Aaron Rodgers - 96 Drew Brees - 84 Brett Favre - 97 John Elway - 97 Dan Marino - 98 Steve Young - 87 Deshaun Watson - 91 Patrick Mahomes - 98 Josh Allen - 98 ...will come back Edited December 24, 2020 by Hunter2_1
Thomas5737
Just the eye test It's always been Marino for me. Hard to consider the guys that never made it, like Boller. Josh Allen and Mahommes are probably one/two currently although Baker Mayfield throws with a lot of Zip also, and obviously can throw the ball 70+ in the air. Bearerofnews
You forgot Herbert. Cannon and makes it look effortless. Always tight spirals soaring through the thin air like enraged missiles. Show some respect FF. Tom is probably like a 91 peak and Peyton 95 peak. Also I’d put Allen 97 and Elway 98, otherwise pretty good list. Also, Watson 89. His arm isn’t his strong suit. tyler735
Josh Allen or Jamarcus Russell is probably the strongest ever in the NFL. Guys like Elway and Favre would be in my next tier with Vick maybe having a case as well in this 2nd tier. candyman93
Jamarcus Russell had the strongest arm I’ve ever seen. Too bad that’s all he was good for.
Mizter_Clean10
Didn’t Boller throw it 70+ yards from one knee in a pre-draft workout?
QBIso
JaMarcus Russell. But he sucks. So out of the good QB’s? Josh Allen IMO.
Apparition
Michael Vick had insane arm strength. Dude could flick it 70 yards with minimal effort.
NeptunePenguins
I also forgot to mention Russell Wilson. Where would he rank?

Over 60, threw it over the goalpost from the 50. Allen did the same thing but it hit the crossbar, didn't make it over.

Meanwhile, there are "strong armed Qbs" mentioned such as Boller, Vick, Jamarcus, and I would throw in Cutler in this as well. This is slightly off-topic but this should tell people one simple thing. A QB having the ability to throw the ball the 70+ yards should not carry as much weight as it seems to do when evaluating a QB. Other tangibles like accuracy at different ranges, decisions under pressure, etc, should always come first on the priority list, IMO. I mean, how often is a QB put in a position where he has to throw that 60-70 yards downfield in a real game? Most throws are within 5-25 yards in todays game.
