If Mac Jones is available will the steelers take him #24?  I dont want them to but do you think they will?

I hope not. There will be better options next year, even in a “weak” class. Not worth it to sacrifice a guy who can help right away. Fields/Lance on the other hand..

I’m not sure I agree with there being better options next year. I see Mac Jones as Matt Ryan. I think we can absolutely contend and win SBs with that caliber of QB. I like Fields and Lance more, but I also really like Mac.

As previously stated, the Steelers are higher on Mason than fans.

Rudolph has really gotten a raw deal so far, and I am not sure if he will ever be the Steelers' starting QB (assuming Ben stays healthy), but Mason is the backup QB in 2021, and I do not think anything changes this season. Next year is a different story, especially if the Steelers have an 8-8 record or worse.

Its a one year deal where he could still be cut easily.    They likely just want to make sure they have someone under contract who knows the playbook.    If Ben comes back, this wont mean much.    If Ben retires, this team will still target QB hard.

Bottom line....this signing means very little.

So it looks like Najee will get to keep his #22 if he wants it. I wonder what numbers the others will get? Freiermuth's 87 is being worn by his position mate Kevin Rader, who is definitely not guaranteed to a roster spot.

Available numbers (bolded are retired officially and unofficially, with italicized referring to actual retired):

1, 3, 6, 10, 12, 16, 17, 21, 22, 28, 29, 30, 32, 36, 37, 43, 45, 47, 48, 50, 51, 52, 53, 58, 59, 61, 63, 64, 65, 70, 71, 75, 78, 79, 80, 82, 84, 86, 89, 92

Who needs numbers (keeping this to FA's who are likely to make the team and drafted players):

Miles Killebrew, Joe Haeg, Dwayne Haskins, BJ Finney, Kellan Ballage, Najee Harris, Pat Freiermuth, Kendrick Green, Dan Moore, Buddy Johnson, Isaiahh Loudermilk, Quincy Roche, Tre Norwood, Pressley Harvin

Who I can see taking what numbers:

Killebrew - 37

Haeg - 79

Haskins - 6

Finney - 65 (if he doesn't get 67 back)

Ballage - 30

Harris - 22

Freiermuth - 89

Green - 51 (I think 53 will be unofficially retired)

Moore - 71

Johnson - 1 (our first positional player taking advantage of the lax number rules)

Loudermilk - 92

Roche - 50

Norwood - 22

Harvin - 3
