I honestly think a lot of our ST issues is talent related.

-The only real explosive athlete we’ve had returning in the last 6 years was Davis and his issues were more mental (he did bust a few). Irvin had a few decent returns but he is more laterally quick and hurt all the time

-JK (nice kid) is a bottom tier punter (Avg 37.0)

For the low price of a 3rd, Eskride would solve our return game woes. Punt team will be a camp issue.

The talent issue doesn't strike me as a Specialist problem. Both Crosby and Scott are very talented. Bradley sucks, but he hasn't broken anything too badly yet.

The talent issue on special teams is in the coverage teams and the returners. Part of that could be solved by letting the ST coordinators have more roster say.

JK’s net was one of the worst in the league last year. Bad placement also can effect coverage units as well.

JK was obviously hurt as hell last year. Shame on the organization for not sitting him down and bringing in another leg for a few weeks.

Also his net was badly influenced by the two long returns, one of which was obviously not his fault, and whether he played any role in the other was questionable at best.

Obviously?  I can't recall where/what/when he was obviously hurt?  Those 2 long returns certainly were not covered well but was his placement where it was supposed to be?  Were the punts low with no height?  His overall punting was not up to par when compared to other teams special teams.  He may have talent but more is expected from him and the long snapper position could be upgraded for sure.

At least the latter one was such an obvious **** up by the coverage unit that it isn't even worth discussing whether the punt was decent. The punt could have been perfect and the return still would have been huge. The two most important guys on the coverage team, both supposed to be right next to each other, didn't get off the line and were 20+yards behind the rest of the team when the returner caught the ball. It was FUBAR from the jump.

Totally agree coverage units suck and HAVE to be upgraded/coached better ... probably both.  That being said, Scott better show more than he has (especially for a mid round draft pick used on him) then he has.  He can be replaced in a heart beat and should be if he doesn't improve.

Not just one game, but all season this ST has been below average. Today we saw them go against what is widely considered the best coached ST in the game and the result was the difference in the game.

We had the mini bye and decided to play with the kicking game continuity by switching the LS- they were not prepared.

Amari has taken steps back as a returner and is officially a liability.

What will be done to correct this?

"Packers bring back Shawn Slocum as special teams coordinator, reason that it can't actually get worse than it already is."

It's time to admit ST's are an unmitigated hot mess......i mean, as bad as I can remember them.

The FG kicking unit is bare knuckles bad. I mean....they really stink. Why exactly? **** if I know - but damn, we line up for a FG or xtra point - we can count on an adventure far more than we should.

If #8 cant get rid of the rookie jitters - put Cobb back there. We *know* he's steady. We *know* he'll catch the ball. We can be confident simply receiving a punt wont turn into a negative play.

Did their best to lose the game against Cincy and made sure to finish the job today against KC. Woefully inept unit that gets worse and worse every week

I wonder how much the constant pressure that seemingly always comes off the right side is affecting Crosby too. Dude is missing to the left a lot and even his makes seem to hook left often where they barely squeeze through the uprights

Sadly I just don't see MLF firing a member of his staff midseason.

Who was the ST coach we refused to pay him his ask?  How's his special teams group doing this year?

Darren Rizzi.

His ST unit is currently 11 in ST DVOA and was 5 last season.

Rick Gosselin (famed ST ranker) had them at 5 last season as well.

The Packers were 25 in DVOA last season, 27 this season, and 29 in Gosselin's rankings.
