Any chance this is his asking for a deal to another team?  I'd trade him in a second if there were any takers.  He's been a bust of a signing .. really expected him to light it up this year.

I don't see any team willing to trade anything for him at this point.

So at the end of last season, the long-awaited downfield threat at TE finally emerged in Cook.

Then in March, for whatever reason, Cook's fault, GB's fault, nobodies fault, contract talks hit a snag and GB moved on and signed Martellus Bennett for 3 years (and for more money than Cook received this year in Oakland).

Bennett then quickly made his presence known in Green Bay.

From his tear-filled press conference over his brother's Las Vegas incident to his sleeping in the locker room, Bennett certainly prove to be an outsized personality.

On the field, Bennett has proven to be a better blocker than the Pack has had at TE since who knows when. Unfortunately, he has also looked a lot slower than most Packers anticipated and was not much of a downfield threat even before Rodgers went down. Bennett has also dropped more than a few balls and generally disappointed in the passing attack.

Now, seven weeks into the season, Bennett announces he is pretty sure this season will be his last.

Whether his decision is due to the wear and tear he has taken over his career, the realization he has all the money he needs, the fact that without Rodgers Bennett does not believe the Pack is a legitimate contender, his obvious interest/focus upon social justice issues, a combination of these or none of these, it is evident that Bennett's heart is no longer in the game.

Going forward this season, does the Pack continue to feature Bennett?

Or does the team see what it has in Kendricks, the only TE under contract for next season assuming Bennett follows through on his retirement? At this point, Lance has just 6 catches.

Will TE be another priority in the upcoming offseason?

What a huge clusterfark.

It' seems clear enough that his heart isn't exactly in the game anymore, so he's doing everyone a favor by making a more or less graceful exit.  Things probably would have gotten ugly if there were 2.5 more years of Bennet in GB's future.

Nobody is giving up a 2nd for 8 or 9 games of Martellus Bennett.

What exactly are we basing this off?

Your 100% correct, however, maybe this is his way for getting traded to another team since Rodgers is out.  I bet if TT traded Bennett to the Seahawks, his butt wouldn't retire.  Rumor has it that the Seahawks might try to deal Graham for cap space, if so, Bennett would be a good target for them at a 4th rd cost.
