Just watched some all-22 of a couple of Brian Allen games and it is easy to see what he does well and where he struggles...excellent run blocker in a zone scheme...gets his guy on skates and keeps him moving away from the play due to his natural leverage advantage over most of these taller interior guys...below average in pass pro...lack of length lets guys get into his chest and then his lack of weight means he gets taken off balance easily...on one leg a lot when trying to block...at 26 years old he would be a long term starter at centre but would have obvious limitations...can't go crazy when it comes to a contract for him…

This all said if I were a betting man I would expect to see Cody Whitehair at centre for us next year.

Where did I say that? I said he’s been “a pretty average-ish player the past few years.” I disagree with the idea that he’s garbage though. Kindle Vildor is a garbage player. Jackson isn’t that.

Was talking about folks in general, not you in particular.

But, Vildor and Jackson had comparable years. Vildor's was a little better.

Vildor made some plays. Can't recall Jackson making many.

Kindle Vildor is not in the same category as Eddie Jackson, come on now.

And I say that as someone who has annually soured on Jackson after the 2018 season.

He is as big as the likes of Antonio Brown, TY Hilton, DeSean Jackson & Tyreek Hill...he is the same body type as Manny Sanders...the "two small to be an outside receiver" is just a bad take in today's NFL.

Those guys were all successful in hybrid roles.

Just looking at Getsy's, Shanahan's, and McVay's teams - there weren't many small WRs on those rosters. The closest comparison I can find is Randall Cobb, who was heavily targeted as a slot guy. You can get Mooney 80-90 targets a year in that exact role while also giving Fields a more reliable WR1.

The plan for Vildor was also supposed to be a slot CB specialist and he has been forced into outside corner duties for much of his time.

Those are two different positions and they both take many specialized reps to get good at.

He got destroyed by the generally bigger, higher top end speed outside receivers as he lacks the physical ability to compete with them.

It's like putting a decent edge rusher at the 1 or 0 and then saying he sucks and is worthless.

Now it's true that Vildor might be an avg. at best, if properly trained, slot corner, but avg. can be good and useful.  We have not developed him properly to date according to our stated plan and we may have run out of enough time to do so now.

It constantly goes back to Belichick philisophy.   Don't tell me what a guy can't do.  Tell me what he does well and we will use him in that capacity.  We will adjust.

That is good coaching.   Avg. coaching just plugs cogs into whatever and wherever and hopes for the best.

No they weren't...especially Jackson & Hilton who early in their careers played almost exclusively on the outside...your not running those guys over the middle for an LB to take their heads off...Mooney is 100% an outside receiver in todays NFL...we say that even last year.

I will respectfully disagree.

My bad. Off the top of my head, I recall Jackson making ONE impactful play last year.

I recall Vildor making THREE

And the last Vikings game was just an utter embarrassment for Jackson.

But...it's all good. No use discussing it further.

Ironically at end of day A-Rob may be most cost effective FA WR option after his sub-par season.

Don't think he wants to be a Bear and don't think they want him back though.

Bears are going to have to sign a vet WR of some decent quality.

I'd be fine with just signing Juju if they are being cost effective. He plays best at the Y, Mooney has had the best work in the Z and there's a handful of guys who can be your X in this draft.

Juju has ties to a coach here already and is one of the best runblocking WRs in the game so Poles and Eberflus should both like that.

I’d be okay with JuJu depending on price.  I liked him coming out of college as a number 2 WR.   Does he have attitude problems?

He's has a personality that can rub people the wrong way. Nothing major, but some (a ton of adults on social media lol) people were crying about him dancing on logos pregame and such. He did it and posted it on Instgram or Tiktok and basically got the Cutler treatment over it.

I'm sure there have been social media gaffes but none that I can think of off the top of my head.
