Meanwhile Kirk Cousins with better arm talent, dominance in metrics, and just as good as as supporting cast doesn't have the wins. He's not the first nor will he be the last either. Jimmy for as limited as he is, and how much "help" he needs, still have enough to a spark not to flounder in crunch time...most of the time like some other guys. Already guessing you disagree, but I think that counts for something that may not be necessarily quantifiable. For as smart as Shanahan is, he's not so smart that he's lapping every single other coach around the league with smoke and mirrors that will always overcome decision making from the guy that still has the make certain throws. This why his chalkboard didn't cut it with Beathard, Hoyer, or Mullens.

If Jimmy goes to New Orleans or Pittsburgh in a new offense and plays largely decent ball, I do wonder if the goal posts will be moved yet again.

I just disagree that Kirk Cousins has an equivalent supporting cast. We have a better offensive line and defense than he has had with a weapons group that is roughly equivalent. Having George Kittle and a diverse group of threats versus 2 useful wide receivers does that. And Cousins’ own contract does that. Minnesota can’t afford enough useful pieces around him because his contract is prohibitive. And we’ve had better in both those spots as long as he’s been in Minnesota - except for the year that Jimmy hurt his ACL. I personally believe that they are roughly similar players with one on a worse team whose shortcomings get attributed to him more. But this is, again, something that I fully expect to disagree with a good number of people on. And Beathard, Hoyer, and Mullens are sub-replacement level players. Worse than most teams backups. It didn’t work for them because they are profoundly below average. If Jimmy goes somewhere else, I fully expect him to play to the level of the supporting cast provided, but not be worth any meaningful contract. Same as any number of guys in his tier. The Saints have a significantly better than average roster, and with a weapon upgrade and Jimmy on a reasonable contract (and somehow shuffling things salary wise to not give up major pieces) could do real damage. The Steelers have quality coaching, but are more pieces away. Depends on the situation.

Even if I were to agree with the talent desperately the way you see it, Cousins has superior arm talent. What he may lack in terms of other aspects of the team and or coaching (and it's not like the Vikings are an expansion team being coached by Jim Tomsula) he should make up for with his passing ability. Yet Cousins isn't exactly eating W's at a higher rate than Jimbo. Cousins melted down against the 49ers, lost to the Lions, and nearly threw the game away against the Steelers. Yeah I don't see him as a victim anymore than Matt Stafford was in Detroit. But if you see Cousins/Jimmy as relatively similar players than it's moot anyway. Anyway good chat boss. Stay crispy. :)

NBC Sports' Peter King reports the 49ers "have not made up their minds, at all, about how to handle their quarterback situation in 2022 and beyond."

Jimmy Garoppolo has complicated matters by playing passably well over the past month and a half, keeping first round rookie Trey Lance firmly seated on the bench since Week 11, when he rushed three times against the Jaguars. Lance hasn't thrown a pass since Week 5. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said the team drafting Lance has been "really hard on [Garoppolo]," commending him for handling the situation like a professional. At 7-6 after winning four of their past give games, the Niners are likely to stick with Garoppolo for the rest of the season. Shanahan said in November that rotating quarterbacks complicated his play calling, vowing to stick with one QB whenever possible. If Jimmy G propels the Niners into the postseason, expect him to be the favorite to start for San Francisco in 2022, the final year of his deal with the 49ers.

I imagine most of this talk is just to drive up the trade price. No way we really want to keep him past this year unless Trey looks like a certified bust already.

Yawn.....This is just to increase his trade value so teams don't think it is a forgone conclusion Jimmy will be gone...But it's not going to work regardless of how hard they try to sell this to the media. Still think they should be able to get solid compensation for him regardless but yeah, no one is buying Jimmy returning next season lol.

If you look at a lot of the passing plays that Deebo was in the game for, he was used as a decoy just going through motion to hold the underneath defenders opening it up for the other receivers. Could this be because he hasn't been practicing the last few weeks? Hope that's not the norm going forward. Sure, Aiyuk/Kittle are getting theirs but Deebo is still the most dynamic player on the team and we need to get him his fair share of touches in the passing game every single week.

7 catches 125 yards 1 TD next week for Deebo, take it to the bank!!!!

So do we hold Mitchell out until the Titans or play him this week if he is feeling better? Falcons game is more important as a win against them almost guarantees us making the playoffs.

I liked what Ryans did with the defense but my one beef is how he had Ambry playing off coverage on Chase. If you get up at the LOS with a safety over the top, you have a much better chance of slowing him down as he won't create much separation. But give him space and he will run right by you in a second. His acceleration with the ball in the air is something special. So while conceptually you may think to yourself that you have the advantage of defending the deep ball with your corner playing 10 yards off, you really don't with Chase.

Our secondary should be able to play more aggressive vs the Falcons even without Moseley. No WR really can beat you the way Higgins/Chase can on the Falcons.

Time for Deebo to get 6-8 catches next week and get back on track in the passing game.

Listening to Crocky, he just said the same exact thing. Ambry Thomas has VERY little off man experience and was almost in press coverage in every snap in college...Compared to yesterday where he was playing off man 98% of the time. You put Ambry in press, then he competes MUCH better vs Chase. This is why Ambry performs so well in those one on one drills in practice because he gets to press the WR. He's a flat out project due to not playing at all last season and the scheme change. Give him time, didn't think he had ANY chance of being ready this season.

All game, I felt he wasn't even given a chance to cover (he did get beat on the last TD though). They were so set on not putting it on him to cover, that they made it really easy to play against our secondary. The coaching staff decided that we'd live and die with the pass rush. Cover 2 to protect our terrible CBs, and the pressure will dictate the outcome of the play. If Burrows gets time to throw the ball, it's there for the taking. Fortunately for us, the pass rush has done enough for us to win this game.

And honestly the game plan was working until the 4th and 5 TD where Burrow had kind of conceded the sack as he backed up thinking he was going to be sacked but then was able to get out of the pocket when he saw Ebukam on the floor....Pay attention to Ebukam and look at how many times he just gets walled off and just falls to the ground. It's embarrassing. If Ford can be activated and return, that will change everything with Key emerging on the inside. Just missing that edge opposite of Bosa to being a really good defense, even with the corner situation. I want Willis and #92 to get more snaps on the edge opposite of Bosa going forward.

Lol one thing is forsure Peter King has a connection with the 49ers. But he is peddling what the 49ers are trying to push which is Jimmy's trade value. There's no way in any world Kyle is going to go another season with Jimmy as the starter.

What I want to know: Who will be Lance's backup? When you play a more active style of QB, one must have a decent backup.
