A lot of that was his personnel control right?

Nope - he was a bad coach who beat up on teams coached by guys like Whisenhunt, Marrone and Pagano, with QBs such as Bortles, Mettenberger, and an Andrew Luck (who was behind a line made up of string cheese and broken dreams). He won games because he simply had more talent than Jacksonville, Tennessee and Indianapolis at those times (Deshaun Watson, prime JJ Watt, young Hopkins, Jadevion Clowney, Kareem Jackson, DJ Reader, AJ Bouye, Bernardrick McKinney, Arian Foster/Andre Johnson were still productive early on, etc).

People talk about the QB situation in Houston, but when the in-division QB slate is just as poor and your team is much better everywhere else, what's the end result?

BoB would go 6-0 in division, then 3-7 outside of the division and would usually get embarrassed in the playoffs when the level of competition improves - only time he was able to win in the playoffs is when Connor Cook was making his first ever (and only) start on NFL, or when Watson/Hopkins/Watt pulled off some magic.

BoB is the exception to "you are what your record is".

He's better than Mac Jones

Their rookie year bulk stats are near identical, except Mac has 14% on Derek's completion percentage and before you say it, a slightly better yards per catch. Unfortunately Intended Air Yards (basically how deep the receiver was when making the catch) wasnt tracked consistently in Carr's rookie year but Mac's 2021 number (8) was on par with Carr's which was 6.1, 6.6, 8.1, and 8.1 the last four years. Hell the biggest difference in their stats THIS year is Carr threw more and therefore had more yards. TD/INT was one off.

Rookie Mac is already almost as productive as 8 year vet Carr. Could be interesting to compare their careers when all is said and done.

Mac Jones also had an elite offensive line, great running game, top tier defense, and elite coaching staff to lean on. If you put Mac on our team last year he would've been fried chicken.

Mac was sacked more often (5.1 sack rate) then Carr in Carr's rookie year (3.9). Carr was sacked at 6% clip this year. Mac's pocket time on average was 2.4 seconds with pressure on 18.4% of pass attempts. Again, these stats werent kept in Carrs rookie year but this year he saw 2.5 seconds in the pocket and 20% pressure. Remarkably similiar.

I will give you the coaching piece though. Its probably why Mac is ahead of where Carr was as a rookie. Ultimately we will see where the comparison goes as Mac is asked to do more.

If you think our OL and your OL were even remotely close, you didn't watch us play.

From a run game perspective, yea NE had some of the best run blocking in the league last year. The numbers suggest Carr and Mac had the same pocket this season though.

I think having an elite run game to lean on keeps a defense off balance. The Raiders had zero running threat so teams were able to come after Carr all game, every game.

Carr was sacked multiple times in 15/17 games, Mac was sacked multiple times in 9/17 games.

When Mac had a bad game he had a BAD game, that is for sure. However, the run game is why I said it will be interesting to see how Mac does when he is asked to do more earlier in this discussion. Will that increased workload stick with the trend or will he crumble under the weight of it?
