2022 QB Rankings (by the numbers, week 13)

Did this the past few seasons, a snapshot look at various passing statistics, ratings, grades, etc. weighed equally to get a single number behind each QB's season. This ranking is purely based on the metrics mentioned below, this is not my own, or anybody's, actual QB ranking.

I will update the thread periodically through the season. At the moment I incorporate the following, but am open to adding more:

Passer Rating= completion %, Y/A, TD% and INT%

ANY/A= similar to passer rating but weighed differently + sacks and yards lost on sacks are added to the equation

DVOA= the outcome of every play is compared to the league average in that same situation, every box score factor possible is utilized. For QBs, DVOA does not include running, unlike QBR.

QBR= similar to DVOA, but with a touch of subjectivity that goes beyond box score (drops, bad plays that weren't fault of QB, etc.), and a clutch factor (more weight towards plays in situations deemed clutch)

PFF= every play is looked at and given a grade, the final grade is the cumulative score of every play normalized to a 0-100 scale

EPA + CPOE = EPA, expected points added, and CPOE, completion percentage over expected. This final number is arrived at using coefficients that best predict adjusted EPA/play in the future. EPA is central to both QBR and DVOA, but CPOE is uniquely used here.

Through 13 weeks, QBs w/ minimum 180 pass attempts. Number in parenthesis refers to their movement relative to their week 9 rank.

QB PR QBR PFF DVOA ANY/A EPA/CPOE Avg SD

FF: Jimmy G sucks, Josh Allen is by far the best QB

Also FF: Judges everything by DVOA

*DVOA has Jimmy G as a top 10 QB and Allen isn't even top 10*

FF: 🤡🥴

You can take Jimmy G, I'll have Josh Allen. fwiw I like Jimmy G.

Idk how Allen is not a top 10 in DVOA with:

Week 1 = 350 total yards, 4 TDs

Week 2 = 320 total yards, 5 TDs

Week 3 = 450 total yards, 2 TDs

Week 4 = 290 total yards, 2 TDs

He's also been the leading rusher on the Bills for 3 out of the 4 games this year, he's the entire offense.

But DVOA also has Cooper Rush and Geno Smith as top 3 QBs so there's that.

EDIT: just saw DVOA doesn't take into account rushing so that makes sense nvm.

PFF has Davis Mills and Mitch Trubisky as their 12th and 13th ranked QB!?

Like, what the hell are they watching?

Well, they have to bump someone up in order to put Goff at 22nd, Lawrence at 26th.

I get some of them where PFF disagrees with the stats and metrics. Like, Cooper Rush makes sense. Dude hasn't thrown an INT, that's going to be a huge boost for him in EPA, passer rating, DVOA, etc., compared to the other guys who even have just one. But he's obviously been a pretty limited game manager, and the grade recognizes that. But Trubisky is basically that same level of limited but he has thrown 2 interceptions, so I have no idea how PFF grades him well.

His agent is probably paying them real well

Yeah, I don't get the Goff ranking. Lawrence had a million fumbles last week and was not that good against Washington either so I kind of see why he is ranked so low. BUT, what is the reasoning for the Goff ranking? They also had Jimmy G rated as one of the highest QBs in week 4 and while he was okay, what exactly did he do to warrant that? He was average and should have been ranked that way. Jimmy got like 90 yards off two passes where on one of them, Deebo did all the work and on the other, the Rams just left Juice wide open in the flat. THAT gets you graded as one of the best QBs of the week? Alrighy then!
