GB defensive issues

This is the most maddening aspect of our defense IMO. We get pressure on QBs. At the same time, our secondary (due to our scheme) bails out the opposing QB time and time again with easy check downs and throws even when the pressure is getting there. We continue to do this despite having 3 CBs whose No. 1 attribute is playing press and otherwise being  physical with WRs at the LOS. It's almost like Barry is intentionally trolling out there.

Yeah Barry's scheme has a enormous gap in it: "Don't cover the WRs during the timeframe there is not pressure"

A live look at Joe Barry's playbook:

"Weren't quite set on defense." That's refreshing. Sounds like we have a bunch of guys that either (a) don't know what they're doing in this zone scheme or (b) are so disinterested with the scheme that they're not playing with any urgency snap to snap. Either way, another game or two like this and I think Barry is going to completely lose the defensive room, especially off the field.

Could one of the issues with defending the middle of the field is due to switching from 1 LB to 2 LB? We lost a DB to play in that area of the field. We downgraded in speed and agility.

The issues with crossers will improve as Quay Walker improves, no one will call him out because he is a golden child in the eyes of many. But his head is swimming, and he was a big reason for many of the breakdowns on Sunday. Everyone should understand this team is a work in progress and Walker will be a big key to that progress.

Players ain't the problem with this defense.  Well, except for maybe Savage and Walker.  One gets a pass for being a rookie.  The other just looks like a bad pick at this point and time.

Still....we have a DL, we can pressure the QB.

And we put Douglas is a position where he is not as effective as he was last year.  Put him at a boundary corner.  JA to slot, Stokes to boundary.

We really need to unleash JA...and Rodgers needs to freakin' back him already.  That defense needs a DAWG, and he should be the guy.

And for the love of God, can we scheme up a blitz at some point and time?  Can we try to pressure with scheme?

With everything that Savage does wrong, can he blitz or play the slot?  Dude is nothing if not fast, let's try to use it.

And....and...yah just frustrated.  It was too early to get up and have to watch that defense and that head coach.

This is not a good defense.

If you're looking for an actual example of a Good defense that isn't getting any support from its offense, you're thinking of the Denver Broncos or the Dallas Cowboys or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Those are actual good defenses.  This is a struggling Defense with a lot of talent.  Emphasis on struggling.

Which is to say, it doesn't excuse the offense from the culpability in the losses. They have their own issues.  And while there is a SLIGHT connection between the success of one and the success of the other... the Defense has little impact on the offense's success, and the offense has little impact on the defense's success.

When did Savage get to be complete garbage? I know hed been a little up and down before but he seemed to have some promise. This year, he is being exposed as outright trash. What happened?

Just me thinking out loud here.

Seems like he flashes that speed and ability when he's locked on a man, and not covering space.

And it seems like he flashes the horrible tackling when asked to fill a run gap near the LOS.

It's like teams know this and use sets that put him in bad positions...so it is now glaring.
