I think you guy over value how much coaches care about draft picks.

Maybe so but cap dollars/cap space available combined with draft picks can't be overlooked.  How many teams have enough great players with a coach that sucks so much they lose enough games to get replaced?  Not many but Payton will make huge dollars no matter where he goes .. he will be picky but not stupid.

Yeah I think people are focusing on draft picks, but forget that Payton wanted out before the serious cap problems began. The saints are something like $60M over the cap already and have no QB. The franchise will be dark for another 5 years at least.

Something happens to these winning NFL head coaches that go to the TV booth and come back to coach.  Vermeil pulled it off, but very few others do.  Guys like Madden, Cowher and Dungy just stayed in the booth, others who come back don't seem to have the success again.  Sean Payton will be interesting to watch.

Might have to add Ron Rivera of Washington to the list after he started Carson Wentz over Tyler Heinicke. They are 5-3-1 with Heinicke starting, 2-5 with Wentz. Commanders were 7-5 at one point and in great position to make the playoffs before going winless in last 4. Based on the way he answered a question in his PC yesterday, he apparently did not know that yesterday could be an elimination game for them.
