Isn't there a scenario where Rodgers potentially just retires though if they can't get a deal done?

Extremely doubtful at this point imo. Too petty and he won't want to share the hof spotlight with Brady

The Packers are not realistically going to hold Aaron Rodgers hostage over unrealistic expectations of compensation, they already told him they want to move on and he wants to move on. If the Packers really cared about compensation so much, they wouldn't have wanted to move on from Rodgers in the first place. This would be bad business practice

Let's look at this from the other view....

The Jets are not realistically going to refuse sending realistic compensation in a trade for Aaron Rodgers, holding their team hostage.  They already flew their front office out to meet him and starting adding players he wants to play with ( Allen Lazard), they want to acquire Rodgers.  If the Jets really cared about acquiring Rodgers, they wouldn't care that much about the compensation in the first place.  That would be bad business practice.

Do people honestly believe the Packers, one of the most reputable organizations, are going to let this saga overshadow and distract from their present team.. all the way up till September 1st? Not to mention the petty narrative that will ensure by holding one of the greatest players in franchise history hostage over trade value. That's the leverage you're banking on?

It doesn't matter what anyone thinks Rodgers is worth (I'm sure what they're asking for is relatively fair) - value is determined by what others are willing to pay and the reality is there are no other suitors.

The Packers decided to move on, if the Jets offer is the best (and only) on the table... then own it. Forcing the Jets to outbid themselves, by holding Rodgers hostage is incredibly petty, especially for an organization as great as the Packers.

Business is business. They bent backwards for Rodgers for years now. Dealing with his attitude, his flip flopping with retirement, him calling out the FO in the media, and bringing in his buddies ultimately to flop in the playoffs over and over.

Rodgers is under contract, therefore any team who wants him should give fair compensation.. If the Packers don't feel the offer is fair, they have every right to pay Rodgers 60M to ride the bench. Just them fulfilling the terms of a contract, one more think Rodgers wants to skate on

That only makes complete sense if the Jets have other options they can purchase and the Packers don't know that. Are there any other top 10 QBs that can make a team superbowl contenders with little cap hit and comparatively small trade compensations for the Jets to get in Rodgers place? Nope, well it sounds like the Jets only option is Aaron Rodgers.

If the Jets only option is to trade for Aaron Rodgers...then own it. Forcing the Packers to accept a low bid because the Jets want a HOF QB for peanuts is just holding Rodgers hostage and is incredibly petty. Especially for an organization with little success over the last 10 years.

The real true deadline imo is the draft.   The value of future picks is far lower waiting and the unknown position.   Because it’s basically going to be A-Rod O with Hackett as clipboard OC coming in later isn’t ideal but it’s not a deal breaker.

They aren't going to force his retirement because they can't get a higher offer. Theoretically, sure, but the damage it would do to their reputation would be insufferable.

Which is to say, a trade is inevitable and that kills any leverage they had left (except for their ability to drag things out) without other teams in the mix. Business is business, just not how you'd expect a team, after choosing to move on, to go about trading arguably the best player in franchise history.

Ha even the fans are petty! The Packers forced themselves to make a trade when they chose to move on. "Low bid" .. also, the highest and only bid on the table.

And the Jets forced themselves to make a trade when they don't have any other QBs on the roster worth a damn, made a big scene flying all over the country to court Rodgers, and now don't have any other QBs to fall back on. I also don't think this is playing out like we are saying anyways. I personally believe the deal is mostly ironed out with maybe just a few small details left to complete.

I would expect both teams to be leaking like crazy if there was this huge stalemate like we are discussing and so far we have heard very little from either the Packers or Jets outside of maybe the initial offers and even those have been disputed.

Yea, agreed. Hard to believe we’d get to this point without framework in place.

My guess, Woody is struggling to cut the check and wants the Packers to eat more of his salary.

They can't get a higher offer because the Jets and Rosfers agreed on a marriage so the other possible suiters moved on. GB shouldn't take less because Rodgers decided to pretend like he didn't know what he wanted to do. The Jets are just as much in between a rock/hwed place as GB is

This sounds entirely like a fan of the opposing team wanting to get a HOF QB on the cheap.

Our FO gets paid to make the Packers the best team they can every day, not the nicest team they can.

In before the Jets darkhorse Lamar out of Baltimore for the same deal GB wants for Rodgers. Canyamagine? I'd be crazy excited and I don't really care about either team.

That would be so much fun.
