Trojan's '23 Mock Draft [update Draft day]

I was just looking over my list of prospects to see who I might have been higher on at the start and forgot to include, and Isaiah Foskey pops out as a big snub. I like him quiet a bit and to not have him in the first two rounds is incorrect. I'm not going to revise it, but MIN (Hendon Hooker at 23) could be the start of Foskey's range and either of the Chiefs picks for refined range. To make it easy I'd have the Chiefs second rounder Foskey to not interrupt the rest of the mock, but I really  feel he'd be gone by then. Minnesota doing a trade down and target him, then using the compensation to move back up for Hooker also makes a lot of sense to me.

I'm not big on Kincaid to the Bengals, but I at least get it.

I can't see them taking Phillips over Rush, Brents, or Smith, who all fit Lou Anurumo's defense more.

I like Spears, I think Abanikanda goes before him though.

I have those CBs as close, but I remember Phillips interview at the combine really saying his fit specifically with the Bengals. He also talked about his versatility playing inside and out which he has over Brents who I view as a strictly boundary option. Rush I like most if you have to flip them and Cam Smith has some character flags apparently dropping him so a SB ready team I think would go with the prepared versatile corner excited to play for them who comes across exceptionally well and talent wise I have as similar enough grade. For Spears I liked his pass blocking ability and pass catching skills as a reason for going to Burrow's team.

Reaching for a center would be a bad decision for the Giants. They should go Deonte Banks there.

I really like JMS for Giants and consider it a near lock at this point. First Gates left for WAS and Feliciano to SF, then there is JMS who is working with Jeremiah Sirles who played for Daboll in Buffalo with NYG OL coach Bobby Johnson. When Schmitz meet with the Giants he aced their protection questions as that is the scheme he has been prepping for months for.

“Bobby told me the next day, ‘I eventually had to throw tackle calls at him to try to get him to miss something,’” Sirles, an agent with One West Sports Group, told the Daily News on the phone Monday. “Bobby basically installed how they do all their protections, and its stuff that John Michael and I had been installing for two months.

“He threw a bunch at him where he couldn’t take notes because they were at a restaurant,” Sirles added. “So it was ‘Here are our installs, look at it, install it, let’s eat our dinner and chat, and then here’s your test.’ And he aced it besides one thing.”

Johnson admitted afterwards that the tackle call never would be Schmitz’s responsibility in a game but joked: “I just had to get him with something.”

To me JMS is one of the safer prospects in the class and the mid-20s is where the blue chips are exhausted, so JMS' positional value issue is less of an issue. He fits a need, has a great understanding of scheme and is high character and high talent. It makes too much sense for me to pass for them, though I did have them "reach" in the third for an aggressive man coverage corner in Mekhi Blackmon who I like but is smaller as a result of passing on a guy like Banks so I do see what you are talking about as Banks making sense.

I need an explanation on the Commanders trade...

I am probably wrong, but I felt like Chase Young is kinda an awkward player for the Commanders. Like clearly very high upside, also very disappointing injury wise and production. Then Chase has his 5th year option coming up like right after the draft, and the team is being sold. By trading him it puts that burden on the Bears who are a team with a ton of cap to just pick up the option and maybe extend and front load him and get guarantees out of the way. The second round swap part isn't too expensive and Witherspoon is a player I won't have at 16 (he'd go 11 to Lions after their trade down). Anthony Richardson could make sense too and just flip the Lions and Commanders selections, but I like Howell a lot and I feel like their defense would be good with Witherspoon. He visited the team as well so I think there is interest. I feel like if the interest the Commanders has shown to Banks, Forbes and Branch is real, and they are also looking at avoiding Chase Young money allotment questions the trade is a cheap way to get a higher graded blue chip version of what they are clearly interested in. I admit I'm almost certainly wrong on it and just piecing random stuff together in my head to make a mock that makes sense to me.

What the Bengals need most is another boundary CB
