MJ was serviceable and Tre Brown was good his rookie season. If anything it was one of the better performing units on that defense in 2022. The real elephant in the room was that front 7.

The CB's beyond Woolen were very hot or cold, with hot being serviceable and cold being liabilities. This pick gives them an actual bonafide tandem on the outside so they can move Coby Bryant or MJ into the slot.

And they've already revamped the interior front 7 with 2 DT signings and they'll likely still draft an EDGE or rely on Nwosu / Taylor / Mafe to contribute there.

When it comes to defensive tackle Jalen Carter, the word making the rounds before the draft was that the Georgia coaches did not have nice things to say. (We specifically decided not to mention any of that until after he was picked, so as not to participate in the pre-draft effort to get guys to fall.)

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media hinted at that last night after Carter became the ninth overall pick in the draft. We’ve heard it more bluntly and strongly. Members of the Georgia coaching staff are not Jalen Carter fans, and they weren’t bashful about saying so.

This would have made me avoid him in the 1st. Something has got to be off if your own coaches are critical of you despite how good of a player you were  for them.

The good news for the Eagles is that this has real Chris Jones vibes to it and that worked out wonderfully.

The bad part is that these guys very much flame out all the time.

I think the destination is very important here. There are definitely teams that shouldn't have picked him even if he was the best player in the draft. He joins the eagles and if he ***** around, he's going to find out. He's not the pitbull in that locker room right now, he's the puppy. They don't give two craps that he was picked 9th overall.

Eagles might be the ideal landing spot.  He already has multiple friends on the roster AND a very good entrenched veteran leadership both on the DLine and for the team as a whole.
