Report: In addition to the #Bills, the #Ravens and #Lions were also in on #49ers QB Trey Lance before the #Cowboys acquired him, per @DMRussini

Most of the conversations were about a trade involving a conditional 6th round pick that could turn into a 5th. The Cowboys won out with a 4th round offer.

A 4th? Hate to put it on lance but that will go down as an all-time bad trade for the 49ers, especially with who was picked after Lance.

I'm shocked he wasn't even the backup to Purdy.

It isn’t Madden. If you keep someone you traded 3 firsts for… the media is going to eat you alive with controversy every time Purdy throws an incompletion. Dallas gets a project QB for a 4th rd pick. 49ers move forward with Purdy who they believe is their QBOTF. You have to show commitment if you think you have one of those guys.

Even 8% for QBs sounds high, lol. Sheesh.

If you go from 2005-2014, there were 12 4th round QBs taken. One was Kirk. Roughly 8% (that's assuming you don't want to include Kyle orton as a consistent starter, though he did start 80+ games).

It's pretty crazy actually and goes up if you stretch it. You really just have to hit one. Over 21 drafts from 00 - 20, you really only had three legit starters (Garrard, dak, Kirk) with a couple of guys like orton. There were 29 fourth round QBs taken, so you're actually over 10%. Logan Thomas became a starter at TE, didn't count that.

If you do a similar stretch from 80-99, I feel like the hit rate is worse overall (Gannon is the main guy and Steve buerlein started 100 games and Aaron Brooks started 90) but you do have a couple of others like Scott Mitchell and Rob Johnson who made some noise. That was roughly 36 QBs.

Safe to say the Dolphins made out like bandits in the Trey Lance trade.

WR Jalen Waddle (Draft)

WR Tyreek Hill (Trade)

LB  Brandley Chubb (Trade)

LB Channing Tindall (Draft)

Go back further. All part of the tunsil trade.

Great job by Miami

More on the value of the 4th round:

4th Round - DL (37%) TE (33%) OL (29%) LB (16%) WR(12%) DB (11%) RB (11%) QB (8%) become consistent starters.

I would always draft a DL in the 4th. Yeesh that’s high success.
