How Are Those Rookies Doing?

With Training Camp underway is there anybody pulling ahead on the depth chart? How is the future of football looking?

1) Xavier Worthy WR - Had a Hammy in OTAs, and some strep throat to start camp, but he’s been as advertised. Fast, tough, smart, good route runner, gets after it. 3rd on the depth chart, will likely see steady use all season

2) Kingsley SuaMataia LT - Starting at LT, seemingly by default. Good run blocker so-so pass blocker with similar issues he had in college

4a) Jared Wiley TE - Reports are he’s the best looking rookie so far. Massive dude, potential steal?

4b) Jaden Hicks S - Spagz seems to really like him, with Reid out he’s been getting some first team snaps and rotating at 3rd safety

5) Scott Nourzad IOL - Seems to be doing a solid job at backup, heard positive things

6) Kamal Hadden CB - Seems to have the tools but still gotta put it all together.

7) Cj Hanson IOL - Have heard nothing of note

Well, lets see...

Ricky Pearsall, Isaac Guerendo, Jacob Cowing all got hamstring injuries, so that was cool.

Pearsall came back today, Guerendo will be out a few weeks. Not sure about Cowing.

Dominic Puni mostly running with backups though Spencer Burford broke his hand so Puni will absolutely have a shot at grabbing the starting gig and not giving it back.

Green has had some highlights at corner and Mustapha is an early camp favorite.

Ya'll got three rings stop being greedy and lose like a good dynasty so you can go for your second arc in 3-12 years.

From today's practice report (first padded practice):

Quote

...(Terrion) Arnold was especially impressive on a bomb to (Jameson) Williams, running step-for-step with the speedster to force an incompletion.

If you've been following Lions' camp at this early phase you know that Jamo has been the most impressive player in it so far, catching one or more deep passes at each practice. If Arnold can keep up with him, that's a good sign.

  • TE Brock Bowers is awesome.
  • G Jackson Powers-Johnson got hurt in OTA's and his missed a good chunk of time + camp thus far, but it's not considered serious. He'll be our LG week 1 imo.
  • CB Decamerion Richardson apparently has looked quite good which would be a huge boot to our DB room.
  • LB Tommy Eichenberg has great IQ and I think will steal snaps as the season goes on.
  • RB Dylan Laube has been one of the better returners supposedly. I think he makes the team and has a 3rd down specific role along side returning.

The rest I haven't heard much about.

I hope all the chiefs rookies suffer a bad rookie year.

Cause bad rookie years are clearly affecting them

Maye has looked as you’d expect if you followed him through the draft process. Makes some wow plays, and some rookie mistakes (doubly so for Milton, in his limited reps). He’s splitting reps with Brissett, who if the season started today, would probably be the starter. Milton is getting more reps than Zappe.

Ja’Lynn Polk looks like he’s carving himself out a role with the first team and is looking to be a Week 1 starter. Has been maybe the most impressive guy thus far, early in camp. Javon Baker has been looking really strong as well.

Caedan Wallace has seen reps at both left and right tackle, but the lineup is far from settled.

The rest of the guys, haven’t heard much from.

Rattler already impressing. Curious to see if it translates in the preseason. Really think he has the potential to be our starting QB at some point.

Sounds like Fuaga has looked like the real deal at LT and should be a day 1 starter for us.

Mason Tipton sounds like he might be the next good undrafted gem for the Saints at WR. Has been making plays every day for the Saints and showing off that 4.33 speed with some solid route running as well.

Still can’t believe he fell that far in the draft. Saw reports from both your head coach and OC gushing over the guy and expect him to contribute early. Could easily see him carving out a role in your backfield with his versatility out of the backfield.

Latu and Mitchell look like year one contributors for the Colts.

Adding to this…

LB Jaylon Carlies has been getting a lot of praise. He’s a S converted to LB, looking to play the Hybrid S/LB role currently held by Ronnie Harrison Jr. but Harrison is also in line to compete for the starting FS job that Nick Cross is taking most first team reps on.

QB Kedon Slovis has been wowing the crowd with some downfield throws to another rookie WR Anthony Gould. Pittman is obviously jealous.
