Anchorage

Offense: We face a formidable defense this week in rival Greenland. We look to establish the run early and entrust our leader Burrow to move the ball down the field and put points on the board with our young exciting weapons. If they want to scheme percentage their front and not match our personnel we will utilize this to have our way with them.

Formations: Ideal usage (Goaline heavy set is more situational and will cut into percentages depending on amount of times/downs on goaline)

3 Wide Base (50%)

3 Wide Bunch (20%)

4 Wide Big Slot (15%)

21 H-Back (15%)

Run Game: We will opt for a 65/35 split between man blocking and zone schemes this week. In our man we look to play smash mouth blocking and always work to get a hat on Roquan and the second level. We will Bully Ball them as we believe we can get a strong push against their front. Without Buckner they will be susceptible to the inside runs. Our Zone game will be inside/outside zone allowing the backs to pick their holes and take advantage of cutback lanes against an over aggressive gap shooting defense. Breece gets the majority of totes with a 70/30 split with Spears.

Passing Overview: Focusing on our combo route concepts giving a layered attack keeping the defense honest in their spacing and not able to cheat any keys. Play action off of the run game and getting Burrow on the move will be a staple again this week. RB/WR/TE screens sprinkled in to take advantage of aggressive gap shooting and slow down the pass rush. Burrow will be entrusted to find the mismatches and go through his progressions taking command of our offense.

Like a good Nabers: Leek will play mostly Z with some reps flipping to the Slot with JSN moving to Z. Nabers has the most receptions of 20+ yards so far this year and we want to get him into situations where we can attack the secondary deep. He will also attack underneath and will see a lot of in breaking routes. We want to combo him a lot with Bowers, he attacks deeper, Bowers attacks shallow and Vice versa.

Brock and Roll: Brock is currently on a roll with his early production and is a Unicorn who will allow us to keep the same personnel on the field but give multiple looks. Inline in our 3 Wide, to creating a 4 wide look with him in the big slot and even at H-Back. He will motion around quite a bit to help us identify coverages. Brock has a special feel for soft spots in zones already and is a mismatch with his size and speed in man. We will really look to utilize him on inside sells and breaking outside into cleared out zones/space. He is dominating in this area. Brock will be key in 3rd down situations and as a big red zone target.

Jaxon Stealth-Ninja: JSN provides a quick underneath dependable safety net as he works out of the slot or the Z. We want to get him working in space underneath allowing him to utilize his savvy route running to create opportunities for himself. He will have some hot routes that allow him opportunities to get behind the defense. Jaxon will be a first read on plenty of plays this week.

Rome wasn’t built in a day: As our X, Odunze provides us a big target on the outside. We know he hasn’t yet shown the flashes of the other young receiving options we have but we still entrust him out there with the 1’s with his talent and a better QB. Trial by fire is how he will learn and progress while occupying a talented DB on the outside for us and being a plus blocker in the run game. We look to get him some opportunities this week to use his size as a possession target.

Hall of Spears: Swings and screens is the name of Breece and Tyjae’s receiving game this week. There will be some chip blocking and stand in blocking but on routes we look to provide the backs opportunities to break big gains with blockers in front of them or out in space in the flats. If we start to see the defense cheating down on the flat routes we will incorporate some wheel routes looking for a big play against a mismatch.

Defense:

•”Invasion” Base Nickel against 11/12/21 personnel

•”Mothership” 5-2 against Heavy extra OL sets 22/23 personnel

•”Annihilation” Dime against 4 Wide

  • Our base defense is our Nickel once again
  • Heavy usage of 2 High Shell Man in this game especially against 3 wide in clear passing situations
  • In short to go situations we play more Single High and Cover 3 with Bullard in the box but we will still utilize all three coverages throughout the game
  • In Dime we will play mostly Cover 3 or Cover 4 but still sprinkle in some 2 High Shell Man where we allow Bullard to book it from a mid safety location pre snap to his deep half (not starting in the box or deep to help disguise Dime Coverage)
  • Sauce will track Ceedee outside while PS2 has Pittman. Gonzo has the slot receiver and Stingley comes in for David Long in Dime.
  • We are allowing our edge players to flip sides throughout the game looking to take advantage of different looks and sets from their offense.
  • We will utilize Hutch or Parsons on some inside rush attempts in clear passing situations getting Jones ll or Cooper onto the field outside
  • Gap defense looking to stay disciplined and clog run lanes to keep Barkley and friends contained
  • Bullard has Kmet when in man single high, but he will see more 2 High Shell this week so he will have more deep coverage reps than weeks 1 and 2
  • When in man in Base, Long will either blitz, play middle robber, or cover Kmet in 2 High Shell
  • JOK will have Barkley in man or any other RB they play in his stead
  • We will again bring some stunts and twists to diversify our attack.
  • When in Cover 3 we will sprinkle in some Long or JOK blitzes for added pressure

Gameplan

Motivation: Turn things around

Tempo: Slow and methodical.  We want to control the time of possession and not let Anchorage and their offense that many chances to score

Playcalling Distribution: 40% run, 40% pass, 15% playaction pass, 5% RPO

Q1: Establish the run game with heavy formations (including 2TE and 3 Tackle sets), as well as spread sets.  Passes will be quicker and look to target the middle of the field

Q2: Whichever formation has the most success running, up those play calls a bit while recalling upping the play action passes out of them.  This quarter we really want to take some shots deep

Q3: Move to a bit more RB/TE/WR screens, while still utilize a little more RPO and playaction

Q4: Playbook wide open and split evenly depending on situation

Run Scheme: We want Barkley to get the majority of rushes this game.  We want to target our runs more up the middle and towards Cooper this game as we feel their D Line is weaker there with Vea missing. Most of our base running plays will be zone style similar to the below

Slide5.JPG

Conner and Benson will be used on occasion to change up the pace, with both running similar play sets as Barkley.

It's also important that we get Worthy involved with a few end arounds, jet sweeps, and double reverses (with Watson). These will also be used as decoys later in the game for playaction passes

Passing: Our passing game is going to be wide open this week with Mayfield at QB. We want to use plenty of stacked WRs with option routes to give our elite WRs (Lamb, Pittman, and Diggs) a step on the defender and especially if they are playing man.  While they are trying to communicate who takes who, our guys are getting a step on them bc they won't be flawless.

We want to run plays similar to this as it will create confusion and open up space for Worthy on slants and crosses in the middle of the field or burning his guy deep some.

Hitch-Switch-1024x474.png

Our goal is to take shots deep when they are in man and we get a step or two on the defender, but also utilizing the middle of the field as the quick outlets and safe throws when we don't get what we want deep.

Barkley will definitely be used in the passing game again. Wheel routes, checkdowns, and a few screens should get him some extra touches this week.

Playaction and RPO's: RPO's will be used/checked in to, to catch Anchorage playing man.  Quick slants on an RPO with no one back should allow Lamb/Pittman/Diggs to burn Anchorage for chunk plays as well.  On playaction we want to have a few plays dialed up specifically for Barkley on wheel routes.

Defense Base Formation: 3-4 defense

Defensive Base coverages:

Man - 65%

Cover 3 - 15%

Quarters - 10%

Tampa 2 - 10%

Playstyle:  this week we are upping our man coverage a lot as we feel our matchups are very good for us this week.  We will matchup our personnel with theirs by way of varying sets (3-4, 4-3, 4-4, Nickle, dime, etc) We want to show heavy blitz looks at times before falling back into man at the snap. We want Burrows changing blocking schemes at the line and not thinking about coverage, it should also lead to some unwarranted quick throws that we might be able to jump and get the turnover.

Run defense: Run blitzes will be upped this week and especially on Andrew Thomas’ side of the line bc we are expecting them to run behind him a bunch.  Stunting with our big men up front will also help to get into the backfield and get tackles for loss.

Passing Defense: to out match their o-line and get pressure, we will be using a number of d-line stunts and blitzing when we feel we have got them complacent enough that we are dropping back to man coverage at the snap.  Our d-line this week will be looking to shoot the gaps (whether stunting or playing straight up).  Getting men in the back field this week will be our goal, this will also help out on the run d.  We will be focusing our blitzes and pressure on Anchorages right side of the line as we feel we have some holes their that we will be able to exploit with extra pressure

When in man we like our CBs to match up nicely against whoever they are covering.

Rome Odunze - Marshon Lattimore
Malik Nabers - Riq Woolen
Jaxson Smith-Njigba- Joey Porter Jr.

I know you're running multiple lookis, but I'd still lead with a 4-3 if I were Greenland, it fits the personnel much better with Buckner out being able to add another really good LB on the field instead of a tyquan lewis

Onto the plans

I think Greenland for the most part did the smart thing offensively here by wanting to pound the rock. While saying you want to run inside while simultaneously showing me a zone outside read play is interesting choice, i'll give you the benefit of the doubt on it

Oppositely I think Anchorage also is smart to pound the Rock here as that's clearly the weakness of this 3-4 personnel Greenland has going on occasions.

Once Greenlands receivers start hitting their stride, it is going to be a scary offense, but Baker looked not good this week and that small ding makes the difference this week in two very nicely built rosters

Anchorage 28-24

The question marks around Anchorage's youthful offense are a lot less scary this week with the immediate elite Malik Nabers play out of the gate, as well as signs of growth from Rome.

I think the Anchorage CBs are one of the few units (especially supported with a strong pass rush) that stand toe to toe with Greenlands strong WR core to win this by 10.

27 - 17 Anchorage

I think Barkley goes nuts here, but I do think with a great Greenland gameplan shoring up a lot of the apparent weaknesses—especially blitzes and stunts to throw off run blocking—and Anchorage’s young receivers standing out, I’m trusting Burrow to outplay Baker down the stretch.

I think Greenland could have some success with Barkley and their gameplan was pretty awesome. I like them to have a lead in a defensive struggle but Anchorage’s offense is coming along nicely.

This level of depth is preposterous haha.
