The only issue with Araiza is that he almost always out-kicks his coverage and punts it into the end zone quite often.  If he can learn to convert some of that distance into hang time and work on his accuracy he'll be amazing.  I don't doubt that a good ST coach like Bisaccia would be able to help him get there quickly.  I imagine Araiza is going to go relatively early in the draft just based on his sheer talent.

Jordan Stout from Penn State is also really good.  He has a higher net avg than Araiza with a lot fewer touchbacks and return yards and a much higher fair catch %.  He also had 18 punts land inside the 10 and another 6 land inside the 5.

Both guys can easily boot it out of the end zone on kickoffs so that's a plus for them as well.

Some stats for comparison:

Araiza
punts:  79
long:  86
avg:  51.19
net avg:  43.23
traveled at least 50 yards:  39
touchbacks:  15
downed inside the 20:  36
opp return yards:  251
fair catches:  17 (21.5%)

Stout
punts:  67
long:  76
avg:  46.01
net avg:  44.54
traveled at least 50 yards:  25
touchbacks:  3
downed inside the 20:  35
opp return yards:  39
fair catches:  30 (44.8%)

Anybody can hold better than Bojorquez.  O'Donnell also can kickoff as well, so that's an added bonus.  Crosby can't boot them out of the endzone with regularity these days.  O'Donnell had 37 touchbacks with Chicago.

Guys, come on. Crosby can kick a ball out of the endzone anytime he wants to.

Anybody who can make a 54 yard field goal, can EASILY kick a ball 70 yards off a tee. Think about it, the goal posts are 10 feet up in the air. Assuming a 45 degree descent at the goal post, that means a 54 yard kickoff, hits the ground at 64 yards. That is the goal line when kicking off from the 35.

Kickers easily can add on 5-10 yards with an elongated run up, not having to launch over a rush, and not having to pay attention to the snap/hold.

Crosby has a touchback% of 45.7% last year. That's because he's being told to aim for the goal line.

Am I wrong for thinking this is like twice as much as I expected? Lol.

That's the 12th biggest guaranteed money for a punter in the NFL at the moment. That's actually quite a lot which means he's 100% our new punter for next season.

We had a big discussion about this last year. If this is true, given the state of our ST coverage unit, whoever told Crosby not to kick a TB every single time around should not only be fired, but probably shot as well.

they brought it past the 25 like legitimately 90% of the time. i assumed crosby's leg was just dead not that we were that dumb but i mean i guess it was the worst unit of all time

@packfanfb

Crosby

49 non touchback, non squib kickoffs.

20 of them ended up past the 25 yard line. This equated to 223 yards.

24 of them ended up before the 25 yard line. This equated to 152 yards.

5 of them ended up on the 25 yard line.

20/49 = 41% of Crosby's non touchback kickoffs ended up past the 25 yard line.

158 - 223 = 65 yards

65 yards/17 games = 3.8 yards per game.

The Packers can sign Campbell officially now, along with O'Donnell and still be about 2m under.

Really the only moves left are Tae and Jaire. Maybe Lowry. We could get to probably 20m to play with in FA if we actually got those two done in the next few days. I doubt it though.

Lowry should be close to enough to get Rasul in the fold, but yea, we need Adams extended asap.
